Development and Marketing Manager

We are seeking a Development and Marketing Manager for our Contemporary Art programs. A key member of a small team currently based at BRIC Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn Heights, this staff member will be responsible for implementing and overseeing all fundraising and marketing strategies related to BRIC’s contemporary art exhibitions, arts-in-education program, and other initiatives.

Development Tasks
  • Work with the senior management to develop and implement an annual fundraising plan.
  • Maintain and utilize Raiser’s Edge database system for tracking grants, gifts, and donor information. Prepare regular income reports and projection updates.
  • Draft foundation, corporate, and government funding proposals, budgets and reports, and identify new prospects for support of exhibition and arts-in-education activities.
  • Plan and coordinate donor cultivation events, including exhibition previews, special receptions, and site visits with funding partners.
  • Plan and implement annual gala campaign.
  • Manage communications with Friends and Gala Host committee members; provide organizational support for meetings of Board Contemporary Art Committee.
  • Work with the senior management to develop long-term strategic funding plan for BRIC’s contemporary art offerings, with a particular eye toward the expansion of this program in BRIC’s new facility (go to http://www.bricartsmedia.org/about/bric-house for information about BRIC’s new facility).
Marketing Tasks
  • In coordination with BRIC’s Associate Director for Marketing, oversee public relations and marketing strategies for all programs of BRIC Contemporary Art.
  • Manage press contact list; draft press releases and cultivate relationships with members of the press.
  • Working in coordination with BRIC’s graphic designer, develop marketing materials including exhibition postcards and catalogues.
  • Mange bulk mail list in Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Develop and implement customized marketing plans for individual exhibitions and initiatives.
  • Assure that BRIC website has accurate, up to date, and complete content on BRIC’s contemporary art activities; also oversee content for the BRIC Contemporary Art blog and social networking sites.
  • Work with the senior management to develop long-term strategic marketing plan.
  • Participate in BRIC Marketing Group for organization-wide marketing efforts.
  • Supervise work study students and interns assigned to development and marketing activities.

This is a full-time position reporting jointly to BRIC’s Director of Contemporary Art and Director of Development.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelors’ degree and minimum of two years development experience, including preparation of complex grant proposals.
  • Excellent communication skills: writing, editing, and oral communication; able to work effectively with donors
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Highly organized; able to work independently and as part of a close-knit team.
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, and spreadsheet skills.
  • A passion for the arts and working knowledge of contemporary art in NYC
  • Familiarity with budget preparation and expense tracking
  • Event planning experience preferred.
Compensation

Salary in mid-$30,000’s with full benefits package

Contemporary Art Educator

BRIC seeks seasoned, innovative artist educators with an active contemporary art practice to act as artist teachers in Brooklyn public schools, Pre-Kindergarten through High School.  Artist Teachers will work alongside Classroom Teachers providing ARTS INTEGRATED instruction in such areas as Math, Science, ELA, and Social/Global Studies.  Each site-specific residency is unique, and is developed to meet the needs of each individual school.  Residencies generally last from 8 TO 24 weeks, and are carefully planned by the Director of BRIC Contemporary Art Education, the partner school and BRIC’s Contemporary Art educators.  The residency team creates detailed Storyboards to plan and evaluate residencies each step of the way to search for evidence of teacher and student learning.

Qualifications

The ideal artist educator is:

  • Creative: Brings innovative thinking and outside of the box passion for learning and community building skill.
  • Collaborative:  A clear and competent communicator.  Willing to share artistic and educational ideas and remain open to new ideas for the success of the schools desired outcome.
  • Mission Driven:  Understands the BRIC’s contemporary art education mission and shared goals with school partners.
  • Reflective: Holds high expectations for all individual collaborators.  Holds the highest bar for themselves and their work in the field.  Willing to examine our collective process to continually improve our work in the field.
  • Professional:  Punctual in all field work completing tasks and reporting in to all members of our team.  This includes school administration and BRIC’s  contemporary art administration.
  • Committed to effective documentation and assessment:  Documenting all projects using BRIC’s Contemporary Art Storyboards and attending all PD related to the on-going development of this documentation and assessment work.

School-based residencies are both during the school-day and after-school hours.

Production Interns, Celebrate Brooklyn! Performing Arts Festival

Dates May 17 – August 27, 2010
Hours Approx 3 days a week (work every show, load-in and load-out)
Salary Unpaid Internship: Local Travel & Meals Provided

Production interns will play a key role in one of the following areas: Production Management, Stage/Company Management, Audio, Video, or Lighting. Interns will work directly with the Production Manager, Technical Director, Stage Manager, Lighting Director, Audio Engineers, and other staff in a challenging (but fun!) professional environment—learn from Broadway designers and industry pros.

Lighting Interns
  • Reports to the Lighting Director
  • Assists with hang and focus of lights
  • Assists with artist load-in
  • Helps to coordinate artists’ lighting and/or video requirements
  • Assists Master Electrician with lighting focus, circuiting and trouble shooting electrical problems with lighting grid
  • Acts as follow-spot operator during show
  • Audio Interns
  • Reports to the Audio Director
  • Assists Front-of-House, Monitor and Deck audio engineers
  • Assists with artist load-in
  • Coordinates sound requirements from various artists
  • Troubleshoots audio problems onstage during show
Qualifications

Must be reliable, committed, willing to work the entire summer production schedule, self-motivated, and possess strong interpersonal skills. Some experience working in production for live events is preferred. We are looking for someone full of energy who is willing to learn and do whatever it takes to get the job done.

BRIC Community Media

Manager of Education, Brooklyn Center for Media Education

BRIC seeks a Manager of Education for its BCME initiative to oversee media education programs, both on-site and off-site. On-site classes teach community residents how to make television, and about the ever-changing landscape of technology now available to them. Off-site and school-based program teach Brooklyn youth practical media production skills and an understanding of an ever changing and powerful media landscape. The Manager of Education oversees curriculum development and instructional staff, in order to pursue BRIC’s mission of making media accessible to the community.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervise media education staff including full and part-time employees; assist in recruitment and selection.
  • Develop curricula for media-based education program for both adults and school-aged children
  • Develop partnerships with non-profit organizations and other stakeholders from the Brooklyn community
  • Develop relationships with public schools to build BRIC’s school-based media education programs; customize and oversee school programs.
  • Facilitate orientation sessions for interested community members
  • Work with marketing staff to increase visibility for education program
  • Oversee scheduling for media education classes
  • Administer evaluations for training workshops and track data to evaluate classes and broaden course offerings
  • Plan and develop Mentorship program to provide community producers with a more professional production experience
  • Oversee the Community Media student internship program
  • Work with operations staff at the media center to help them serve as more effective mentors and teachers for community members.

Desired Qualifications
  • MA in Broadcast, Television Production, Communications or related field

Associate Producer, Public Affairs

BRIC is currently seeking to hire an Associate Producer, who will assist producers in the production of Brooklyn Independent Television programs. Reporting to the Senior Producer for Public Affairs, the Associate Producer will produce public affairs programming and assist in the production of programs in other departments.  This position is part of a NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Managing master production schedules for department programs
  • Providing editorial support in the form of story ideas
  • On-camera reporting and creation of packages and segments for programs
  • Coordinating shoots and edits with BRIC Community Media staff, freelancers and community producers
  • Editing programs using AVID Media Composer non-linear editing software
  • Incorporating graphics elements into the program
  • Directing in-studio interviews
  • Planning and participating in production kick-off meetings, and on-going story meetings
  • Mentoring certified community producers, interns and volunteers throughout the production process
  • Fulfilling program dub requests
  • Assisting in managing public affairs tape library
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Communications, Television or Broadcast Journalism
  • Knowledge of Brooklyn and the people that make our borough unique
  • Minimum of three years of experience in television creation, including experience managing all phases of production and experience with both remote location and in-studio shoots
  • Ability to lead a team with varied levels of television production skills
  • Motivated self-starter; have exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Possess an excellent knowledge of non-linear editing systems, including Avid Xpress Pro and Final Cut Pro
  • Familiarity with public access television is a plus

Assistant Operations Manager

BRIC Community Media seeks an Assistant Operations Manager whose primary functions are to oversee equipment and facilitate the use of the Media Center by members of the community.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Oversee equipment and software in the media center, including: 3 television studios, master control and transmission, AVID edit stations, mobile production truck and public equipment for use in the field
  • Help staff and community producers use media equipment and trouble shoot problems.
  • Maintain inventory control system for the media center.
  • Assist in purchasing, integration and training for new equipment
  • Assist the Operations Manager with scheduling staff
  • Fill in for operations staff when needed
Qualifications
  • BA/BS in Broadcast, Television Production or Communications
  • At least four years of experience with digital video cameras and non-linear editing programs (Avid Xpress Pro/Media Composer preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of both studio and location video production
  • Familiarity with audio/visual equipment and able to make equipment purchasing recommendations
  • Ability to lead a team with varied levels of television production skills.

Salary & Schedule: $38,750 plus benefit package. This position is part of a NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit. Regular days off are Wednesday and Thursday and weekend work is required.

Video Teaching Artists: Consultant Opportunity

The Brooklyn Center for Media Education, a program of BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn, seeks consultants to serve as video teaching artists in New York City public schools.

Background

BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn was founded in 1979 to nurture the arts in Brooklyn. Today, Brooklyn is thriving, and BRIC is a dynamic cultural organization that supports the creative process in the disciplines of performing arts, contemporary art and community media. The works BRIC present reflect extremely high production values, yet are offered for free or at very low ticket prices. Each year, upwards of a million people in Brooklyn and NYC are served through BRIC signature programs.

The Brooklyn Center for Media Education provides Brooklyn residents with access courses, workshops, and hands-on training that enable them to produce content for television and learn more about the ever-changing landscape of technology available to them today. The program also offers classes on media literacy and television production in the public schools.

Project Scope

Video Teaching Artists are contracted to provide a complete “residency” (educational program) at a public school. This will include:

  • Meeting with school staff to determine their needs;
  • Customizing media curriculum to mesh with the school’s program;
  • Delivering classes to students and assisting with their final projects;
  • Maintaining communication with the school and BRIC to report outcomes, make changes in program design, and assist with assessment;
  • Obtaining materials needed for classes
Qualifications
  • Expertise in field production, digital video and non-linear editing;
  • Experience teaching media to school-aged children;
  • Experience developing curriculum and assessing educational outcomes;
  • Able to work with a diverse group of students and maintain classroom control.

Freelance Master Control Technician

Job Description: This person is responsible for quality control of four channels; loading programs for playback; creating tape run times; troubleshooting; and maintaining the playback transmission log. Freelancers are responsible for weekend, sick days and vacation coverage. Availability to work flexible hours essential. This is an hourly position: $12/hour. Reporters are responsible for generating story ideas, working with a camera person in the field to execute the story and editing their packages on AVID.
