BRIC Contemporary Art

Art Gallery Interns (unpaid internships)
We seek motivated, enthusiastic interns to learn about the operations of a contemporary art gallery. Interns will focus on one of three areas: exhibition coordination and curatorial projects, arts education for young people, and fundraising events and general marketing. Interns will be based at BRIC Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn Heights, the borough’s oldest contemporary art space.
Responsibilities
Interns will be involved in many aspects of gallery operations, working directly with staff. Intern projects will include:
- Curatorial research and writing projects for upcoming exhibitions
- Exhibition-related paperwork; compiling exhibition notebooks.
- Assist in promotion of exhibitions and artist programs.
- Maintain and update the online BRIC Contemporary Artist Registry.
- Assist in preparation for the annual fall gala, Brooklyn Art:Work.
- Providing docent tours for Brooklyn students K-12.
- Assisting with the organization of artist residencies in public school classrooms.
- Interns may also occasionally act as Gallery attendants and assist with other administrative tasks and errands.
We will strive to assign projects to interns that best align with individual interests and career goals.
Qualifications
Applicants should have excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills, and be able to work independently and on multiple projects simultaneously. Preference will be given to students majoring in Art History, Arts Management, or related areas. College juniors, seniors, and graduate students strongly preferred.
Interns should possess skills and experience in some of the following areas:
- Basic design including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel, Microsoft, PowerPoint
- Writing, editing, and proofreading
- Internet research
- Knowledge of PC and Mac computers
- Digitizing and archiving images
- Phone and communication skills
Schedule
12-16 hours per week, for a semester-long commitment. College credit may be arranged. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 to 6.

Manager of Education, Brooklyn Center for Media Education
BRIC seeks a Manager of Education for its BCME initiative to oversee media education programs, both on-site and off-site. On-site classes teach community residents how to make television, and about the ever-changing landscape of technology now available to them. Off-site and school-based program teach Brooklyn youth practical media production skills and an understanding of an ever changing and powerful media landscape. The Manager of Education oversees curriculum development and instructional staff, in order to pursue BRIC’s mission of making media accessible to the community.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise media education staff including full and part-time employees; assist in recruitment and selection.
- Develop curricula for media-based education program for both adults and school-aged children
- Develop partnerships with non-profit organizations and other stakeholders from the Brooklyn community
- Develop relationships with public schools to build BRIC’s school-based media education programs; customize and oversee school programs.
- Facilitate orientation sessions for interested community members
- Work with marketing staff to increase visibility for education program
- Oversee scheduling for media education classes
- Administer evaluations for training workshops and track data to evaluate classes and broaden course offerings
- Plan and develop Mentorship program to provide community producers with a more professional production experience
- Oversee the Community Media student internship program
- Work with operations staff at the media center to help them serve as more effective mentors and teachers for community members.
- Field phone & email inquiries regarding media education
Desired Qualifications
- MA in Broadcast, Television Production, Communications or related field
- At least three years experience developing media curricula
- Strong knowledge of both studio and location video production and post-production editing
- At least two years of experience supervising staff
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience working with the public
- Strong organizational skills
Salary, Benefits and Schedule
- $45,000 - $50,000 depending on experience
- Full benefit package
- May include some Saturdays

Assistant Operations Manager
BRIC Community Media seeks an Assistant Operations Manager whose primary functions are to oversee equipment and facilitate the use of the Media Center by members of the community.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Oversee equipment and software in the media center, including: 3 television studios, master control and transmission, AVID edit stations, mobile production truck and public equipment for use in the field
- Help staff and community producers use media equipment and trouble shoot problems.
- Maintain inventory control system for the media center.
- Assist in purchasing, integration and training for new equipment
- Assist the Operations Manager with scheduling staff
- Fill in for operations staff when needed
Qualifications
- BA/BS in Broadcast, Television Production or Communications
- At least four years of experience with digital video cameras and non-linear editing programs (Avid Xpress Pro/Media Composer preferred)
- Strong knowledge of both studio and location video production
- Familiarity with audio/visual equipment and able to make equipment purchasing recommendations
- Ability to lead a team with varied levels of television production skills.
Salary & Schedule: $38,750 plus benefit package. This position is part of a NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit. Regular days off are Wednesday and Thursday and weekend work is required.

Freelance Master Control Technician
Job Description: This person is responsible for quality control of four channels; loading programs for playback; creating tape run times; troubleshooting; and maintaining the playback transmission log. Freelancers are responsible for weekend, sick days and vacation coverage. Availability to work flexible hours essential. This is an hourly position: $12/hour. This position is part of the NABET-CWA collective bargaining unit at BCAT. The selected candidate will be or will become a member of NABET-CWA.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and adjusting video and audio levels
- Digitizing promo's and public service announcements for server playback (Seachange)
- Monitoring and updating (up-next menu) Scala
- Process all programs for automated playback (Sundance)
- Transmit live programs when necessary
- Monitor and update college radio programs.

Freelance Shooters
Job Description: Brooklyn Community Access Television is looking to add to its roster of freelance DV camera operators. If you have experience shooting ENG style news, sports, or documentary footage then we want to see a sample of your work!
Skills Requirements: Must have the ability to work solo in the field, or with a producer/reporter and production team. Must also be comfortable managing audio in the camera/on the fly using the Cannon XL-1s and standard wireless lav. systems. Please have a current driver's license and a flexible schedule. Freelance TV Reporters
Job Description: Seeking freelance, on-camera reporters for Brooklyn-based bi-weekly news magazine, Brooklyn Review.
Reporters are responsible for generating story ideas, working with a camera person in the field to execute the story and editing their packages on AVID.
We are looking for reporters with a passion for storytelling, personality and the ability to provide in depth, insightful coverage of the issues facing the borough of Brooklyn. Our style is more NPR than NBC.
Reporters are paid on a per package basis, with packages ranging in length from 3-6 minutes.
