A performing arts program of BRIC, Celebrate Brooklyn! is the borough’s premiere summer-long performing arts festival presenting a culturally-diverse season of music, dance, spoken word and film in a large outdoor venue. All of BRIC’s offerings are free or low cost, to enhance the public’s access to and understanding of arts and media.

Reporting to the Venue Front of House Manager, Janitorial Staff’s primary responsibilities include all site and facilities maintenance and daily clean-up for the Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival. This is a temporary hourly position beginning approximately May 31, 2012 and ending August 11, 2012.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cleaning and restocking public restrooms with 20 stalls and urinals twice per shift
- Wiping down and refreshing 20 portable toilets
- Picking up and bagging trash and plastic/aluminum recycling
- Loading bags onto trash and recycling trucks.
Shifts will be 6-8 hours p/day ending most days at 1AM.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in a safe, efficient and professional manner
- Carry out recycling program and encourage attendees to use correct recycling and trash containers
- Communicate with House Manager about needed site repairs and/or other site issues.
DAY OF SHOW
- Ensure site is clean throughout and ready for venue opening each day
- Ensure all trash cans are emptied, properly placed, bagged and ready for venue opening each day
- Ensure all public restrooms and portable toilets are clean, stocked and ready for heavy daily use
- Pick-up, sort and bag trash and recycling throughout show taking care to use three separate bags for 1) plastic bottles/cups, 2) aluminum, and 3) remaining trash.
- Continue cleaning in and around site sorting as above and leaving site clean for the next day
- Load recycling and garbage trucks

BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn is seeking a creative and strategic-thinking Director of Education, to unite and expand our youth education offerings.
BRIC’s programmatic offerings will expand significantly with the late 2012 opening of BRIC Arts | Media House, a new cultural center that will house a major contemporary art exhibition space, two performance spaces, and significantly upgraded and expanded community media facilities.
This is a new position, dedicated to unifying our youth education programs under a common framework, and growing our offerings for youth, both on and off-site. The Director of Education will report to the Executive Director and be a key member of BRIC’s senior management team.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze current education offerings and help shape a shared pedagogical framework across disciplines
- Develop curriculum frameworks and arts assessment tools that reflect BRIC’s goals for its education program and ensure BRIC curricula align with New York State and City educational standards.
- Working with the Executive Director and current Education staff, develop short, mid- and long-term goals for the expansion and development of BRIC school-based residencies, with a particular eye towards growing school-based programming for media and creating a school-based performing arts education program, and establishing multi- and inter-disciplinary residencies as appropriate
- Working with the Executive Director, Program Directors and current Education staff, and based on an analysis of local arts/media education needs and gaps, develop short, mid- and long-term goals for non-school based youth programming, including developing plans for a BRIC House summer program, and expanded family programs
- Identify infrastructure needs for additional resources, technology and staff to achieve those goals; assist in developing budgets and approve expenditures within budget authority
- Work with the Executive Director and Director of Development to identify and secure additional funding sources to support expanded offerings.
- Manage roll-out of approved expansion plans for media and performing arts
- Develop a cohesive framework for BRIC’s various internship programs and working with the Program Directors, help oversee the deployment of that framework in each discipline
- Develop orientation and professional development/evaluation programs for artist teachers, helping to build a community of professional artists with background in teaching in all disciplines
- Assist in designing quantitative measures and collecting data to enable statistical program assessment; work with existing education staff to create improved, systematic, consistent processes for data collection
- Together with other BRIC education staff, represent BRIC in public forums and the larger education community
- Serve as liaison on education programming to board of directors
Other
- Infuse across the organization a sense of continued engagement and excitement about BRIC’s educational offerings.
- Working with the Community Media Program Director, plan youth educational programming to be offered in conjunction with a new Youth Media channel (currently under development) and oversee staff implementing that educational programming.
Personnel
- Provide executive management of the Contemporary Art Education program
- Supervise Education Program Assistant, Manager of Youth Education for Community Media and, in the future, a corollary position for Performing Arts

Ideal Qualifications
- Masters degree or higher in relevant field;
- Five or more years arts /media teaching and curriculum development experience

- Three or more years in a senior management position at a cultural institution, with significant supervisory experience

Freelance Media Instructors
BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn seeks experienced media professionals to teach different aspects of media production to Brooklyn residents. Courses include Avid editing, field production (camera, shot composition, lighting, and sound), studio production, and graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite).
Reporting to the BCME Manager of Education, Freelance Media Instructors’ responsibilities include, and are not limited to:
- Prepare lesson plans and provide instruction to classes of twelve adults.
- Evaluate students’ progress and verify competence for certification to use our media center facilities and equipment.
- Meet regularly with M to review curriculum and class outcomes.
Qualifications
- Expertise in field production with digital video cameras, especially Panasonic AVCCAM cameras;
- Expertise in non-linear editing with Avid software;

Media Teaching Artists
The Brooklyn Center for Media Education, a program of BRIC Arts|Media|Bklyn, seeks seasoned Media Teaching Artists to teach in New York City public schools.
Background
The Brooklyn Center for Media Education provides Brooklyn residents with access courses, workshops, and hands-on training that enable them to produce content for television and learn more about the ever-changing landscape of technology available to them today. The program also offers classes on media literacy and television production in the public schools.
Project Scope
Media Teaching Artists are contracted to provide a complete “residency” (educational program) at a public school. This will include:
- Meeting with school staff to determine their needs;
- Customizing media curriculum to mesh with the school’s program;
- Delivering classes to students and assisting with their final projects;
- Maintaining communication with the school and BRIC to report outcomes, make changes in program design, and assist with assessment;
- Obtaining and transporting materials & equipment needed for classes.
Qualifications
- Expertise in field production, digital video and non-linear editing;

Job Description: Hands on and head first! That’s what the Associate Producer we’re looking to hire should expect at Brooklyn Independent Television, a division of BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn. This is an opportunity to create media that focusses on the people who make our community one of the most dynamic art scenes in the world.
BIT was officially launched by BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn in 2006 in response to strong public demand for more top quality Brooklyn-focused television programming. This innovative local television initiative serves the people of Brooklyn by providing the only in-depth non-commercial television coverage of this fantastically diverse borough.
Reporting to a Senior Producer, the Associate Producer will take part in every aspect of the programs he or she helps to create, from pitching a story to postproduction. Those programs primarily cover art, culture, and youth media in the borough, but may include other content areas as well.
Duties include:
- Develop and pitch ideas for BIT segments; participate in staff meetings to coordinate story material and approach;
- Research stories;
- Coordinate and direct camera shoots with BRIC staff, freelancers and community producers, both in the studio and in the field;
- Edit television segments using AVID Media Composer or other non-linear edit software, incorporating graphic elements;
- Produce high-quality video segments independently;
- On-camera reporting may be required;
- Manage tape library and fulfill dub requests;
- Mentor community producers, interns and volunteers throughout the production process.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Communications, Television, Broadcast Journalism, or related field;
- Knowledge of Brooklyn arts and culture community;
- Two years experience in video production, or an equivalent body of work;
- Ability to motivate a team with varied levels of television production skills;
- Motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Experience with non-linear editing
