BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn presents The Battle of Brooklyn Remembered August 26th on its BCAT TV Network<

Produced by Brooklyn Independent Television, the cablecast of the documentary special coincides with citywide celebration honoring the anniversary of the first and largest battle of the American Revolution.

Brooklyn, NY, August 5, 2010 — BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn is pleased to present The Battle of Brooklyn Remembered on its BCAT TV Network, honoring the anniversary of the first and largest battle of the American Revolution fought on August 27th, 1776. Produced by BRIC’s Brooklyn Independent Television (BIT) and hosted by Joseph McCarthy, this documentary special will feature The Brave Man, a dramatic short film written, produced and directed by McCarthy about the historical battle; an interview with Brooklyn-based Pulitzer Prize-winning Historian Edwin Burrows; and “Brooklyn & The Revolutionary War: Building an American Identity,” part one of Reveal the Real: Kids Uncover the History of Brooklyn, a three-part historical documentary series created by students and produced by BIT that features middle school students from IS 318 on a search for historical clues and resources that eventually lead them to the notorious British prison ship Jersey.

The Battle of Brooklyn Remembered will air during the Brooklyn Independent Television programming block on Thursday, August 26th at 8:00pm on Time Warner 56, Cablevision 69, RCN 84 and in all five boroughs on Verizon 44.

Edwin Burrows is a professor of history at Brooklyn College and has written numerous books and publications focused on New York’s participation in and residents’ experiences during the Revolution. He is the co-author of Gotham, A History of New York to 1898, which garnered a Pulitzer Prize for History in 1999. In 2008, he published Forgotten Patriots, The Untold Story of American Prisoners during the Revolutionary War, a historical account of New York City’s role as a jailhouse for Britain’s military operations.
