Automated System

ATTENTION BCAT TV NETWORK PRODUCERS

We are working towards a goal of becoming a fully digital file-based transmission by our Spring 2010 Programming Quarter. This means that the BCAT Media Center will no longer accept tapes as a format for playback starting on March 29, 2010.

We've taken the first steps towards becoming an automated and digitally file-based television transmission facility. We're presently using our new automation system for scheduling and find that it provides an easier process of encoding media, more efficient playback of programs and cleaner reception for viewers. The new automation system  will change how producers submit programs for playback and scheduling.

In order to prepare for this goal, we want to make sure our community and playback producers are fully prepared for this transition. Learn more about our in person tutorials, our on-line tutorials or browse through our Frequently Asked Questions

YOU CAN NOW INGEST YOUR SHOWS FOR AUTOMATIC PLAYBACK ON THE BCAT TV NETWORK! WHY WAIT? DO IT TODAY?

To ingest your show into our new scheduling system, you'll need a username and password. Do you have a show presently on the BCAT TV Network, but have not received a username and password? Next time you visit the BCAT Media Center, be sure to request this information from Tape Drop-Off or PE. We'll simply ask you for a picture ID and print your username and password for your records.

While there, be sure to give your active e-mail address and current telephone number. We're going to ramp up our email communications substantially. These emails will contain information about our digital transition, serve as a reminder for important deadlines, or will be a helpful 'heads-up' for larger projects we have coming down the pike. As always, you can visit our website at bricartsmedia.org/community-media to learn more about BRIC Community Media Events such as upcoming Brooklyn Center for Media Education classes or the most recent BCAT TV Network program guide.

You can also receive your username and password by contacting Matthew Allen at 718-935-1122 x 221.  He will ask you to verify your mailing address, contact telephone number and email address. If our records do not match the information given, you will need to visit the BCAT Media Center to update your contact information in our database. All producers should have usernames and passwords Saturday, December 19th. If you have not received this information by that date, please contact the BCAT Media Center at 718-935-1122 x 221.

As soon as you receive your username and password, we encourage you to submit your program via our ingestion stations located in the lobby of the BCAT Media Center.

For a short time, we request that producers submit a tape of your program to Tape Drop-Off after ingestion. We will air this tape only if we encounter any errors with the ingestion of your program. After we are assured your program is properly loading digitally, you will no longer need to drop off a back up tape. If you have any questions regarding this process, please ask for assistance from Tape Drop-Off or from Facilities personnel.
