Create files using iTunes

Download & print the following steps as a PDF.

The majority of editing systems will allow you to export your edited episodes' timeline as a QuickTime .mov file. The follwoing is an easy way to convert your exported QuickTime .mov file into an .mv4 file that contains the settings needed for high-quality playback on the BCAT TV Network. You can download the latest free version of iTunes at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download.

TO USE THIS METHOD, YOU MUCH FIRST EXPORT YOUR EPISODE AS A QUICKTIME .MOV FILE.


Step 1:

 

A) Export your .mov file to your desktop.

B) Open iTunes. The window above will appear. On iTunes, select 'Movies' from the right hand navigation bar.


Step 2:C) Click on your .mov file on your desktop. It will become highlightes.

D) Drag your file into the black area of the Movie window in iTunes.


Step 3:

E) In the status window at the top of iTunes, you will see "Copying 1 of 1: [TITLE OF YOUR FILE]." A film icon will be in the black area of the Movie window while the file is being created.
Step 4: 
F) When finished, the film icon will be replaced with a screen shot from your file. Click and select the icon with the screen shot. It will become highlighted.
Step 5:

G) Select "Advance" from the menu bar at the top of iTunes. A drop down menu will appear. Selec "Create Apple TV Version" from the drop down menu.
Step 6:

H) In the status bar at the top you will see "Converting [TITLE OF YOUR FILE]." You will notice a small orange icon appear in the right hand navigation bar that says "Converting."

Step 7:
I)Once the conversion is complete, a second file will appear in the black area of the Movie window.
Step 8:

H) In the status bar at the top you will see "Converting [TITLE OF YOUR FILE]." You will notice a small orange icon appear in the right hand navigation bar that says "Converting."

Step 9:

J)Create a new folder on your desktop. Name it the title of your folder. Open the folder.

K) Select the recently converted file (the one on the right) and drag it to the folder you've created on your desktop. (You can adjust the size of your folder's window to make it easier for dragging the file.)


Step 10:
L) A window will appear that says "Copying [TITLE OF FILE] to [TITLE OF FOLDER]".
Step 11: 
M) Once finished, the file will appear in the folder you created on your desktop. Notice that the file has an ".mv4" file extension at the end.
Huzzah! You have converted your episode to an .mv4 file that can be easily transferred to the BCAT TV Network's playback system!

If you plan on ingesting your file digitally at the BCAT Media Center, you will need to save the folder you created onto a flash drive, external hard drive or burn it to a DVD-R and bring it to the facility.

If you plan on uploading your episodes via the FTP server (**coming soon!**), you will simply log onto the BCAT TV Network's FTP and upload this file into the folder specified for your program.
