Most editing software applications have the option to export your episode's timeline as a Quicktime .mov file. The following steps show you how to convert your episodes into a .mv4 file from a .mov file and the settings you should use for optimum playback quality on the BCAT TV Network.
Step 1:
A) Export your episode from your editing software as a .mov file to your destop. Click on the icon to make the video play.
B) From the menu bar, select 'File.' From the drop-down menu select 'Export.'
Step 2:
C) A 'Save Exported File As...' window will pop up. Type in the name of your show.
D) In the options area at the bottom of the window, click on the 'Export:' bar. (See red arrow.)
Step 3:
E) A menu will appear. Please select 'Movie from MPEG-4' from the list. After it is selected, a check mark will appear. The menu will then close itself.
Step 4:
F) Now go back to the options area. This time click on the '
Options' button. (See red arrow.)
Step 5:
G) The 'MPEG-4 Export Settings' window will appear with a small window that says 'H.264 Video Options' inside.
H) Under 'Restrict Profile(s) to:' select 'Main'.
I) Under 'Encoding Mode' select 'Best Quality (Multi-pass)'.
J) Click 'OK'.
Step 6:

K) You'll now be brought to the '
MPEG-4 Export Settings' window.
L) Click on the '
Audio' tabe in this windwo to adjust the audio settings for your file.
Step 7:
L) Double check that 'MP4' is selected for the 'File Format.' If not, simply click on the bar and select 'MP4.'
M) Set the audio settings as follows:
- For 'Audio Format' select 'AAC-LC (Music)'
- For 'Data Rate' select '128 kps'
- For 'Channels' select 'Stereo'
- For 'Output Sample Rate' select '48.000 kHz'
- For 'Encoding Quality' select 'Best'
Step 8:
N) Click on the 'Video' tab in the 'MPEG-4 Export Settings' window.
O) Set the video settings as follows:
- For 'Video Format' select 'H.264'
- For 'Data Rate' select '5000 kbits/sec'
- For 'Optimized for' select 'Download'
- For 'Image Size' select 'Current'
- For 'Key Frame' select 'Every' and enter '24 frames'
P) Select 'OK'.
Q) You will return to the 'Save Export File as.." window. Select 'Save.'
Step 9:
Quicktime will now export your episode as an .mv4 file to your desktop. Depending on the size of your file, this might take some time. Once complete, simply drag the .mv4 file into a folder for your show and save it to your flash drive, external hard drive, or burn it onto a data DVD-R. OR upload the .mv4 file to the BCAT TV Network FTP server from home. (This feature coming soon!)
