Internships

BRIC seeks highly motivated and responsible interns interested in gaining experience in contemporary art at BRIC Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn Heights. Interns will gain first-hand experience in the administration of a non-profit gallery, including exhibition organization, marketing, and art education, while assisting with such vital, day-to-day operations as gallery reception and security, exhibition installation, maintenance of the BRIC Contemporary Artist Registry, clerical work, and other tasks. 

Intern Duties:

  • Welcome gallery visitors and inform them about the current exhibition and public programs.
  • Assist with morning school group tours and evening gallery receptions and events.
  • Offer docent tours and assist with family art-making public programs.
  • Assist Gallery Manager with exhibition installations.
  • On-line marketing: Update BRIC contemporary art blog, write entries including news items and exhibition reviews, and post listings and announcements on various on-line sites.
  • Maintain Facebook and Flickr accounts.
  • Facilities: Help maintain the gallery space, storage, and office areas. 
  • Assist with simple design for flyers, public program notes, and signage.
  • Write brief artist bios and prepare exhibition binders.
  • Assist with the organization of BRIC Contemporary Artist Registry files, Lori Ledis Emerging Curator Program, and BRIC Media Arts Fellowship.
  • Mail bi-monthly postcards and flyer/postcards distribution around Brooklyn.

Interns will be assigned to various tasks depending on their skills and experience in such areas as:

  • Basic design  including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Excel, Microsoft, PowerPoint
  • Writing and research skills
  • Knowledge of PC and Mac computers
  • Digitizing and archiving images
  • Phone and communication skills

Students are urged to carefully consider their academic schedule and other responsibilities before planning an internship and committing to a semester-long schedule. Work-study and academic credit may be arranged. Please send a cover letter and resume to bkhan@bricartsmedia.org


Volunteer Opportunities

BRIC seeks volunteers for a wide range of contemporary art positions including offering docent tours to school groups, office support, and gallery reception. Call 718-875-4047 x10 for information.
