BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn partners with public schools across Brooklyn, offering school-wide residencies, exhibitions at schools, and professional development opportunities directed at artist teachers and classroom teachers alike. These contemporary art education programs support the aesthetic development of the entire school community. Each site-specific residency is unique, and is developed to meet the learning goals of the individual classroom or school. Each residency lasts an average of 8 weeks, and is carefully planned by BRIC's Director of Education with the school principal, classroom teacher, and BRIC artist teacher.
Past residencies have explored varied areas of the academic curricula including English Language Arts, math, social studies, geography, biology, and other topics. Students learn about contemporary art practice from professional artists using high-quality materials. Each partnership strives to empower visual literacy and nurture the next generation of artists and audiences.
The team creates detailed BRIC Contemporary Art Education Storyboards to plan, assess, and evaluate residencies each step of the way to search for evidence of teacher and student learning.
