A Display of Vigah

April 19-May 26, 1990

Tim Main became fascinated with mosaics while riding the subways. His first “site specific installations” were unauthorized mosaics he installed in holes in the deteriorating subway station walls. Since then, he has been exploring the medium in his free-standing sculptures. In the center of the darkened gallery, a Kennedy rocker was draped with a ceramic tile mosaic shawl of news photos and text describing the assassination of JFK. An emotionally-charged remembrance of the Kennedy era, this installation created a space outside our normal sense of time and dimensions, in which the viewer could remember, reflect and question.
