Informed Choices
Since 1981, the Rotunda Gallery has been served by its Artists’ Advisory Committee, a group of artists/arts professionals who have played a significant role in shaping the Gallery’s curatorial program. Members of the committee are Jack Battenfield, Millie Burns, Thomas Cahill, Joel Carreiro, Jackie Chang, Alcaqro Garcia, Paul Gardere, Jane Greengold, Lori Ledis and Time Main. The group includes painters, photographers, sculptors, and installations artists, who in their varied professional lives have contributed to the art world as teachers, gallery owners, art administrators, and museum professionals. This year’s selection process took the form of a round table discussion at which each of the members presented the work of three artists for review. Selected were: painters Pio Galbis and Kevin Noble, sculptors Robin Hill, Corey McCorkle, Shari Mendelson, John Monti, Jesse Moore, and Bill Schuck, and printmaker Felix Plaza. The discussion focused on the obvious interest of each of the artists in form, and the lines and volume which are its defining elements. The have approached the issue from their own aesthetic points of view, whether minimalist, realistic, or conceptual—animating form and endowing it with meaning according to their own unique artistic visions.
