Bridging the Gap is a collaborative exhibition showcasing artists of all age groups. It was started in order to bridge the gap that separates older and established artists and emerging artists. With each film, Brooklyn media makers have worked with staff mentors to explore the vast world of artistic expression, capturing the art, the artist, and curators that shape the Bridging the Gap exhibition. Each film, much like the exhibition is intended to not only help viewers learn from those who have paved the path before us, but to also evolve as better artists and creatives within our communities.

FEATURED FILMMAKERS & PROJECTS:

Notes From A Brush Featuring: Dick Griffin

Painter, musician, and an all around modern Renaissance Man, Mr. Griffin gives us an insight into his fascinating life, which allows the viewer to catch a glimpse of the man behind decades of musical and artistic genius.

Nanette Carter: An Artistic Journey
Produced by: Phyllis E. Roker & Joseph Ranghelli
You are invited to an inside view of Nanette Carter's journey through her life as an abstract artist. Ms. Carter shares her unique beginnings and the development of her views on life's issues as interpreted through her art. She embraces The Bishop Gallery's new exhibition Bridging The Gap from various perspectives.

Why Bed-Stuy: The Bishop Art Gallery
Produced by: Stephen Edwards & Matthew Allen
Bedford-Stuyvesant is notorious for a great many things, but fine art isn’t often associated in the “Do-Or-Die” neighborhood. The Bishop Art Gallery has become an outlet for African-American painters and sculptors to display their astral, visceral and reactionary expressions on canvas as well as a destination for Black youth to challenge their allegorical muscles, and see things through a new vantage point. This package explores the creators of the Bishop, their mission and why the presence of the Bishop is important to that neighborhood.
