All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us for a series of Community Dance Classes taught by Ronald K. Brown and members of his company, Evidence, A Dance Company.

Evidence, A Dance Company blends traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word providing a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs. These Community Classes, accessible for all ages and skill levels, are rooted in the Company's fusion aesthetic and are the perfect alternative to another boring day at the gym. Come discover the joy of dance! No previous experience necessary.

TEACHING SCHEDULE

Monday February 6 – Ronald K. Brown

Brown founded Evidence, A Dance Company in 1985.  He has worked with Mary Anthony Dance Theater, Jennifer Muller/The Works and other choreographers and artists.  Brown has set works on Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ailey II, Cleo Parker Robinson Ensemble, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Jennifer Muller/The Works, Jeune Ballet d’Afrique Noire, Ko-Thi Dance Company,  Philadanco, Muntu Dance Theater of Chicago and Ballet Hispanico.

Brown was named Def Dance Jam Workshop Mentor of the Year in 2000 and has received; John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, National Endowment for the Arts Choreographers Fellowship, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, United States Artists Fellowship, and The Ailey Apex Award for teaching.   Brown is a member of Stage Directors & Choreographers Society.

Monday April 3 –  Clarice Young (Rehearsal Director/Dancer, Evidence, A Dance Company)

Clarice Young of New Roads, Louisiana, is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a BFA in Dance. Young is the first recipient of the Evelyn Elizabeth Lochman Dance Scholarship in 2001 and received a full tuition scholarship to attend the America Dance Festival in 2003. She has performed with Francine E. Ott/The Walk, Camille A. Brown & Dancers, Shani Collins Achille and Bridget L. Moore, to name a few. Young was featured in TRACE Magazine in 2007 as one of NYC’s “dancers on the rise” and received a ChoreoQuest Award for mentoring at The Restoration Youth Arts Academy.  She joined Evidence, A Dance Company in 2007 and was appointed Rehearsal Director in 2011. 

Monday May 1 – Ronald K. Brown, with Annique Roberts (Assistant Rehearsal Director/Dancer, Evidence. A Dance Company)

Annique Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia trained at Tri-Cities High School for the Visual and Performing Arts, the Junior Division Summer Intensive Program at the Ailey School and at Jacob’s Pillow.  She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Dance from Howard University under the direction of Dr. Sherrill Berryman-Johnson.  In 2004 she joined Garth Fagan Dance and became senior dancer in 2006.  She also taught at the Garth Fagan Dance School and was featured in the August 2008 issue of Dance Magazine.  Annique joined EVIDENCE in January 2010 and was nominated for a 2013 New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) and was featured in TimeOut NY Magazine.
