BIOS:

Bitter & Esters: Douglas Amport and John La Polla, motivated by their knowledge and passion for brewing, founded Bitter & Esters in July of 2011. Fueled by their desire to inspire, educate and nurture the growing homebrew community in a friendly space, they conceived of Bitter & Esters as a brew on premises location and classroom space. With access to resources, supplies and expertise, it is a creative hub for sharing brew tips and techniques. Bitter & Esters fosters a deep commitment to the craft of brewing.

Threes Brewing: Threes Brewing is a brewery, bar and event space, based in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn. At Threes Brewing we aspire to make beer that’s good, not just interesting or different. Beer that can be enjoyed without screaming for your attention. Beer that you want to revisit over and over again.

Strong Rope Brewery: Strong Rope Brewery and taproom serves hand-crafted ales in Gowanus, Brooklyn. As a New York state Farm Brewery, Strong Rope's ales range from reinterpretations of classic styles to seasonal varieties that utilize the best ingredients local farms have to offer. As a New York state farm brewery we feel it is important for us to do our part to help bring back the brewing agriculture to New York and to support the farmers and craftsman that are creating the ingredients we use in our beer...without their extraordinary effort and commitment to quality our beer would not be nearly as delicious.

The Brewminaries: The Brewminaries is a homebrew club in Prospect Heights focused on helping every member make better beer through experiments, brewing, & discussion. We were founded in March 2015 by a handful of brewers from the Bitter and Esters' beer swap. Right out of the gate we had award winning brewers, and BJCP certified judges as members. With more than 50 years of brewing experience between the founders, we realized we had the potential to help beginner brewers become better brewers, faster. Brewminaries was born out of passion for brewing and community. Members enjoy leap-frogging the classic mistakes and speed bumps that a novice brewer would face alone. We support each other, and make better beer together.

Sheri Jewhurst is a native Long Islander and brewed her first batch in 2011 after volunteering at a brewery in Tasmania, Australia. Sheri co-created the Ladies-Only Brewshop 101 and Brewprenticeship courses at Bitter and Esters, but spends her days as a water quality scientist. Sheri has a soft spot for any Australian hops and likes to brew sessionable beers.
