WARPAINT weaves intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals, and driving post punk rhythms into gorgeous, sprawling songs that skirt the line between psychedelia and intimacy. The LA band’s self-titled second album, released earlier this year on Rough Trade, is “both cool and beautiful—an awfully formidable combination from an awfully formidable band,” (NPR First Listen) and “the perfect backdrop for your next midnight séance or moonlit dance party.” (Rolling Stone) Their appearance at Celebrate Brooklyn! is part of a tour that includes Coachella, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands.

Brooklyn singer-guitarist-songwriter Sam Cohen is an artist charting his own path. He formed the neo psychedelic/indie rock trio Apollo Sunshine while attending Berklee College of Music; has played as a session guitarist on albums by Shakira and Norah Jones; and was the musical director of The Complete Last Waltz (Warfield Theater, San Francisco, 2012; Capitol Theater, Port Chester, NY, 2013) in which 38 musicians recreated all 41 songs from the legendary final concert by The Band, immortalized in Martin Scorsese’s film. His project YELLOWBIRDS plays bracing rock ‘n’ roll and bubbling folk, drifting jangle and swiveling R&B with “an endearing raggedness, as though Cohen invited you into his living room.” (Pitchfork)
