Hailing from Syracuse, New York, Ra Ra Riot’s high-speed chamber pop is an addictive mix that combines, “Arcade Fire’s orchestral reveries with Vampire Weekend’s pop sensibility.” (Rolling Stone) The band got their start playing in houses and venues around the Syracuse university campus in 2006. They’ve gone on to headline at festivals from South by Southwest to CMJ, and have toured with the likes of Tokyo Police Club, Art Brut, and Bow Wow Wow. The band’s second album, The Orchard, was produced by Ra Ra Riot and Andrew Maury, and several of the tracks were mixed by Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla.
Delicate Steve, led by guitarist Steve Marion, is rumored to play 39 other instruments and has the music community all abuzz with his creatively interpreted bio accompanying a frenzy of new tour dates and performances nationally. The Jersey-based, five-piece instrumental band released its debut album, Wondervisions, in 2011.
The Brooklyn-based duo Buke & Gass are Arone Dyer on the “buke” (a self-modified six-string baritone ukulele) and Aron Sanches on the “gass” (a guitar-bass hybrid of his own creation). Both of them play double duty mobilizing a small army of foot percussion filtered through various pedlas, amplifiers and other homemade inventions to create a complex sound, with Arone’s melodic vocal lines woven throughout.
