Alloy Orchestra, a three-man musical ensemble, has been writing and performing live accompaniment to classic silent films at prestigious festivals and cultural centers internationally including The Telluride Film Festival, The Louvre, Lincoln Center, and our own Celebrate Brookyln! Festival. Utilizing their infamous “rack of junk”, electronic synthesizers, and found percussion, the group has helped revive some of the great masterpieces of the silent era.  Celebrate Brooklyn! veterans, Alloy Orchestra boasts a spectacular variety of styles; they can conjure up the feeling of being attacked by tigers, contacted by radio signals from Mars or swept up in the Russian Revolution. Alloy Orchestra performs its original live score to the newly restored version of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, “a masterpiece of visionary cinema… Just about every science-fiction movie you can think of pays tribute to its influence, but to date none has matched its strangeness or its prophetic power.” (A.O Scott, The New York Times) This print, discovered in 2008 in Buenos Aires, includes 25 additional minutes and is just four minutes shorter than the lost original that premiered in 1927; its reconstruction is among the most significant restoration projects in cinema history.

Brooklyn local Marika Hughes, the soulful and versatile cellist, offers a pallet-cleansing set for the sonic and visual rollercoaster to come.
