BRIC is proud to present the exhibition En Foco: New Works/Crossing Boundaries, in collaboration with En Foco, the Bronx-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing and supporting photographers of diverse cultures. Curated by Elizabeth Ferrer, BRIC’s Director of Contemporary Art, this exhibition highlights the work of seven artists who have been selected to receive En Foco’s prestigious New Works Photography Fellowship, an annual juried award program that fosters the creation of new work. This exhibition will focus on photographers who have used the award to create bodies of work that move beyond the boundaries of conventional forms of the photographic medium, and extend their artistic practice.

En Foco’s New Works Photography Fellowship is awarded to U.S.-based photographers of Latino, African or Asian heritage, and Native Peoples of the Americas and Pacific, and supports those selected in creating or completing an in-depth photographic series exploring themes of their choice. The goal of the program is to identify and promote talented emerging and mid-career artists, creating a cross-cultural dialogue and providing artists with exposure and growth opportunities.

The exhibition features photo-based work produced with an array of approaches and modes of presentation, and focusing on a wide range of subject matter – from Don Gregorio Antón’s contemplative, spiritual self-portraits placed in ornate copper reliquaries, to Karen Miranda-Rivadeneira’s staged scenes of childhood memories enacted by members of her family, to Charlie Grosso’s provokingly candid series documenting each bed she spent the night in while traveling the world, questioning the idea of “home.”
