Murals On view: December 7, 2015 - February 21, 2016
Related to the BRIC Fireworks Project, The Spinning Wheel, three artists have been commissioned to create murals inspired by the poems of Living Theater alum steve ben israel. A combination of graffiti techniques and materials will be on display drawing a reference to the street, a place where israel performed and embodied his belief in art as an active engagement in the world around us.
Viajero creates immersive installations combining drawing, painting, and sculpture. His elaborate environments are informed by issues of race, migration and identity while exploring both the personal and historical memory of the two worlds he inhabits: the tropical landscape of Puerto Rico and the cityscape of New York. His work was recently seen in the Presente! Young Lords in New York, an exhibition spanning Bronx Museum of the Arts, El Museo del Barrio, and Loisaida Inc., New York NY. He will be included in an upcoming Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery exhibition opening in March 2016. A recent mural by Viajero can be seen on PS102 Elementary School in East Harlem.
Cern, a native New Yorker, got his start writing graffiti in the early nineties. He continued development as a visual artist and musician, painting murals and exhibiting works throughout South America, Europe and South Africa. Cern’s work has also been featured at the San Diego Museum of Art, Museu Brasileiro De Escultura in Sao Paulo, and Los Angeles MOCA. A recent mural by Cern in collaboration with El Nino de las Pinturas can be seen on Canal St. and Lafayette.
YAKO 440 is a hip hop artist, producer, beatboxer, graffiti artist, and family man. YAKO 440 along with Baba Israel, Sean Nowell, and Duv to form the "new rare groove" band SOUL INSCRIBED. He is one of the three artists collaborating on The Spinning Wheel project at BRIC House.

Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building.
