BRIC SELECTS ARTISTS FOR SUMMER 2019 RESIDENCY PROGRAM
BRIC, the Brooklyn-based cultural nonprofit organization, has invited nine emerging and mid-career artists to participate in its summer 2019 BRICworkspace residency program. Participants include Zalika Azim, Shelly Bahl, Mimi Bai, Julian Chams, Dain DeltaDawn, Sareh Imani, Mei Kazama, Nsenga Knight, and Gustavo Prado. The artists were selected by a panel of BRIC’s curatorial team and former artists-in-residence. They were evaluated based on their work’s relevancy to Brooklyn’s diverse community, their artistic goals, and their ability to create innovative work. Each artist will be provided free studio space at either BRIC House on 647 Fulton Street or Saint Ann’s School at 33 Clinton Street and other resources as well as a small stipend for materials. They will also receive feedback on their work from BRIC staffers. Commenting on the program, Paolo Arao, a fall 2018 resident, said: “The BRICworkspace residency was an invaluable gift of time and space that allowed me to focus on my practice. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to meet with esteemed curators . . . and honored to work alongside generous and inspiring artists whose work I admire.” Other former residents include Nicole Awai, Oasa DuVerney, Carl E. Hazlewood, Sara Jimenez, Tahir Carl Karmali, Trokon Nagbe, ruby onyinyechi amanze, Nooshin Rostami, and Monica Weiss.
