BRIC has collaborated with so many exceptional artists and we are grateful to them for sharing their work with us and our community. We wanted to take a moment to congratulate some BRIC contemporary art alumni for receiving recognition from prestigious arts organizations. From fellowships to grants, prizes, and awards, join us in celebrating the achievements of these groundbreaking creators!
- Valerie Tevere and Angel Nevarez: Guggenheim Fellowship
- Tevere and Nevarez were exhibition artists in several past exhibitions at BRIC, including: Art Into Music, The BRIC Biennial Volume III: South Brooklyn Edition, and BRIC Open: Justice.
- Baseera Khan: Brooklyn Museum UOVO Prize
- Khan was an exhibition artist in BRIC's recent exhibition, Beyond Geographies: Contemporary Art and Muslim Experience, and was also a 2019 Colene Brown Art Prize recipient.
- Jesse Chun and Collette Fu: Joan Mitchell Painters & Sculptors Grant
- Chun was a 2017 BRIC Media Arts Fellow (now BRIClab: Video Art) and was a 2017-18 ArtFP exhibition artist.
- Fu is a past BRIC exhibition artist, whose work was included in En Foco: New Works/Crossing Boundaries.
- Chitra Ganesh and Karyn Olivier: Anonymous was a Woman Award
- Ganesh is a past BRIC exhibition artist whose work was included in A Wild Gander: Artists from the South Asian Women's Creative Collective.
- Olivier is a past BRIC exhibition artist whose work was included in The BRIC Biennial, Volume I: Downtown Edition.
- Marie Lorenz, Shani Peters, and Bayeté Ross Smith: Creative Capital Award
- Lorenz is a past BRIC exhibition artist whose work was included in Water Water Everywhere.
- Peters is a past BRIC exhibition artist whose work was included in Public Access/Open Networks.
- Ross Smith is a past BRIC exhibition artist whose work was included in Art Into Music.
- Heidi Lau, Emily Oliveira, Umber Majeed, and Olalekan Jeyifous: NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellows
- Lau was an exhibition artist in BRIC's recent exhibition, Death Becomes Her, and was also a 2019 Colene Brown Art Prize recipient.
- Oliveria is a 2018 BRICworkspace (now BRIClab: Contemporary Art) resident, and she has a forthcoming solo exhibition in BRIC's project room, I Saw God and She Wasn’t Made of Money.
- Majeed was an exhibition artist in BRIC's recent exhibition, Beyond Geographies: Contemporary Art and Muslim Experience.
- Jeyifous was commissioned by BRIC for a public art project at DKLB BKLN residential building and was a Cafe mural artist.
- Kenseth Armstead: Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant
- Armstead was a 2017-18 BRIC ArtFP recipient and subsequently had the solo exhibition, Masterwork: Slaves of New York 1776.
