Interested in attending The Hubble Cantata at the Bandshell this Saturday? Great! Here’s what you need to know.

This event will take place OUTDOORS at the Prospect Park Bandshell and will happen RAIN OR SHINE. There will be some chairs available, but you can bring blankets and chairs to set up in the grass as well. Click here to see what you can and cannot bring into the Bandshell.

Gates open at 7PM and the show starts at 8PM. (Note new times!)

Every audience member will receive a Cardboard Virtual Reality Headset, so they can experience the last 10 minutes of the performance in virtual reality. You will need a smartphone to use the VR headsets, as you will attach the headset to your phone. If you do not have a smartphone, you will still be able to enjoy the performance, but it will just be a 2D experience.

Before the Show:

Please download the FREE “Fistful of Stars” app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. On your phone, go to your App Store or Google Play app and search for “Fistful of Stars.” The app, which is by Wemersive Inc, will be the first app that comes up, so you can then download and install the app on your phone. You may want to be on Wi-Fi for this step, so you don’t use your phone’s data.

Download the video. When you open your new Fistful of Stars app, you will immediately be prompted to download the video. Click OK and download the full video before the show. You may want to be on Wi-Fi for this step, so you don’t use your phone’s data.

Make sure your phone is charged! As mentioned above, you do need your phone to experience the virtual reality, so make sure you have enough battery to get you through the night.

At the Show:

Arrive early to find your spot, get food and drinks, and get settled. Gates open at 7:00PM and innovative trio Tigue opens the show at 8:00PM. Once The Hubble Cantata starts, at 9:20-10:15PM, there is no break or intermission. Like all our BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival performances, we will have food and beverages available for purchase from Farm on Adderley, the Good Batch, and more.

Get your free Cardboard Virtual Reality glasses! Volunteers and BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival staffers will be handing out the glasses at the VR Hotposts.

Make sure your phone is ready. Open up Fistful of Stars to make sure the video is set for the final part of the show. There will be Wi-Fi courtesy of Time Warner Cable and people on hand to help you troubleshoot if needed.

Experience The Hubble Cantata. This is a major musical performance featuring a 20-piece ensemble, a 125-person choir, two Metropolitan Opera stars, and images from the Hubble Space Telescope. Simple enjoy the performance and you will be instructed on when to press play on your video and start the virtual reality experience.
