It Could Only Happen at BRIC: The Damage Done

Have you heard of #BHeard Docs – BRIC-produced documentaries about our communities and the issues they face? In spring 2022, we released the new season entitled The Damage Done – which tackles the rise and impact of gun violence in Brooklyn since the beginning of the pandemic. It shows the ways people try to heal and fight to prevent further damage each and every day.

Throughout the course of The Damage Done, our audiences learn the history of the Iron Pipeline bringing guns into Brooklyn, meet the mothers of Flatbush who have lost children to gun violence, and delve into the essential role of violence interrupters working in their communities to try to staunch this tide.

MOTHERS STILLS 1_0

Community-centered storytelling is at the heart of BRIC. Will you support that work through a tax-deductible gift this season?

In “Mothers of Flatbush: The Real Experts on Gun Violence,” the #BHeard team spoke with Natasha Christopher, a community outreach specialist with The GodSquad, a faith-based organization working in Flatbush and East New York.

“If anybody could tell me the one thing that has caused me so much pain would’ve given me purpose, I would have told them that they were lying. I never thought that somebody murdering my son would give me purpose in life.” -Natasha Christopher.
