We're very excited to announce that the fourth year of our New York Emmy-nominated Media Share grant program has begun with an excited group of nonprofit participants ready to learn new skills and become media makers!
The Media Share program is an in-kind grant with the goal of educating Brooklyn nonprofit organizations to use media to “move their missions.” Through the grant, we offer staff development opportunities and video production training from professional media makers selected to work closely as mentors to the nonprofits. This year we welcomed four new producing mentors eager to begin collaborating with their assigned nonprofits in the coming months.

The 2016 grantees met our producing mentors for the first time in an orientation in which they learned about our Public Access channels, educational resources and public equipment. During this time, they were also able to get to know more of our team at Brooklyn Free Speech and mingle with representatives of the other organizations involved in the program.
Selected organizations come to Media Share with a range of goals, from creating public service announcements to filming cultural performances and capturing oral histories on video. We will customize the learning process so each organization gains the skills to create their own media, even after the program is over.

And without further ado, we'd like to introduce you to the Media Share Class of 2016. Our hope is that each of these nonprofit organizations will continue to have a relationship with BRIC and Brooklyn Free Speech for years to come! Congratulations Media Share 2016 grantees!
