The Mike Casey Trio is making its mark in the New York City jazz scene, with new music and several recent live performances. And later this month, this trio of young performers, who met while studying at University of Hartford’s Hartt School, will bring their fresh sound to BRIC JazzFest.
Last month at BRIC House, Making Gowanus: Theatre of the Liberated premiered their community created multi-media performance, celebrating the arts, creativity and activism in the Gowanus Houses, a NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) residence. BRIC joins the Making Gowanus team and neighborhood-wide colaition as they petition to re-open the Gowanus Houses Community Center.
Strong hurricanes devasted Caribbean countries and parts of the United States as well as Mexico, as a result many people lost their homes and loved ones. BRIC and other organizations are working together to offer disaster relief and accepting donations for the families that were affected by the hurricane.
Inner Sanctum, a mural by a visual artist Olalekan Jeyifous is a new art in downtown Brooklyn. Jeyifous creates large-scale works examining architecture and its relationship to place and community. Partnering with BRIC, his work will reach new audiences and promote his vision throughtout central Brooklyn.
Keyboardist-composer Vijay Iyer has spent years performing and recording to international praise. Today he releases the first album from The Vijay Iyer Sextet, called Far From Over, along with horn players Graham Haynes, Steve Lehman, and Mark Shim, and rhythm partners Stephan Crump and Tyshawn Sorey.
BRIC is pleased to announce the complete list of artists awarded its new ArtFPcommission. With the award, BRIC will support 15 Brooklyn and New York City-based visual artists in creating and presenting exhibitions and/or immersive installations in spaces throughout BRIC House in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
