Driven by a fascination with historical narratives and notions of identity and environment, Kane relies on intuition as a catalyst for her various projects. Her pieces often employ found materials in the creation of colorful and visually engaging abstract compositions. Kane presents the viewer with an emotional depiction of the world around her, referencing both the political and humorous, the moving and the still.

As an African-American woman of mixed heritage, she approached her work as an opportunity to position women of color into the Western Art Canon. Nina focuses on creating honest and personal depictions of women, particularly women of color, as a means to provide an alternative to the stereotypes prevalent in our culture.
