BRIC, the pioneering NYC arts and media organization celebrating 40 years as the leading presenter of free cultural programming in Brooklyn, presents celebratory electro Arabic act 47SOUL with a live show in Fort Greene. The performance is part of the 2019 season of BRIC House Sessions, a must-do Thursday concert series featuring world-class artists that reflect the diversity of Brooklyn and bring the ethos of the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival into the organization’s Downtown Brooklyn headquarters. New York-based, female-fronted global dance act Underground System opens the show. City Point, an innovative entertainment and retail destination, and a supporter of culture in Downtown Brooklyn, joins BRIC House Sessions 2019 as Lead Sponsor.

Hot off a tour of Europe’s big summer festivals, and their triumphant U.S. debut at Globalfest, 47SOUL will turn the BRIC House Ballroom into a party with a message. An Electro Arabic Dabke (Shamstep) band formed in Amman, Jordan in 2013, 47SOUL’s members are rooted in Bilad Al-Sham, spanning the divides from Amman to the Galilee to Ramallah and the rest of the Palestinian Diaspora. Their lyrics, mixing Arabic and English, call for celebration and freedom in the struggle for equality. “With lyrics that are at once intensely political and sweetly universal, this is one smart party band” (NPR).

Underground System is a quintessential New York City band. A convergence of musical and cultural influences, the unstoppable female-fronted group of neo-afrobeat deconstructionists have cultivated a sound as inimitable as its members. Robbing American Afrobeat of its derivative formalism, Underground System continues to reinvent their brand of global dance music, remaining a force determined to recreate, redefine, and reconstruct. The band just played the highly regarded festival Transmusicals in Rennes, France, garnering national acclaim from some of France’s biggest media outlets. Their debut album was released in September on Brooklyn based dance label Soul Clap Records.

Brooklynite DJ Bembona (Vibras NYC) opens the night with her radical blend of Afro-Diaspora sounds.

Tickets may be purchased online at BRICartsmedia.org or via Eventbrite.com. The Box Office at BRIC House is open on performance days, one hour prior to the event. BRIC House is located at 647 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. BRIC House is open weekdays and Saturday at 8am and Sundays at 10am.
