BRIC’s 2023 Podcast Intensive cohort provided the ins and outs of creating a podcast pilot and a viable season all while learning & producing remotely. Students produced their pilot, with 12 weeks of skill-building in non-fiction storytelling, podcast production practices, interviewing, recording techniques, and editing. The podcast topics are intense personal journeys each student has spent the past 6 months working on. The stories range from the plausible and implausible things that happen when you’re brave enough to try, to explorations of gender identity with a focus on what it means to be gender typical, to the correlation between street life, and “9-5” work life.

About the cohort
Serrina Goodman is a writer, executive producer, director, award-winning filmmaker, ministry leader, public speaker, podcaster and entrepreneur. Born In Baltimore, MD currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. Ms. Goodman is the CEO & Founder of Savvy 1 Productions Business and Entertainment Management as well as the Executive Producer and Host of the self-titled Talk Show, “The Serrina Goodman Show” airing weekly on the Brooklyn Free Speech TV network since 2007. Ms. Goodman is also the Host of the popular weekly webinar, “The Lunch Time Lift” initially designed to bring resources and information to the world during the pandemic. Ms. Goodman ended the season with 52 webinars in existence. Ms. Goodman continues to successfully curate thought provoking topics weekly on The Serrina Goodman Show Live on Instagram. Ms. Goodman is also the creator and host of “The Drama Room”, a virtual performance platform where aspiring artists are afforded the opportunity to perform and interact with industry professionals. Ms. Goodman is also the Host and Executive Producer of “The Business of Marriage” Podcast where hot button topics are discussed in rare form. Lastly, Ms. Goodman is a Ministry Leader and Faith Counselor at Christ Fellowship Baptist Church, Brooklyn, NY, leading an award winning Drama Ministry as they continue to inspire and encourage the world to “mount up with wings and soar like eagles”.
Maryll Botula (Creator/Host of Digging in the Dirt, sometime Director, Actor, Writer and Producer, Full-time maid to Archie the pug): BK resident/ Pittsburgh born and raised, Maryll has applied her steel town grit and spirit to her work in TV/Film and stages and day jobs regionally for decades. Most recently, Maryll’s short film, Buttball (director, writer, producer) won Best Short/ AoBFF 2022, official selection of numerous film festivals nationwide. Slamdance called the screenplay of ‘Buttball ‘an unusual and joyful piece of writing’. Other work in film includes: Stalled- Writer, Producer, Lead: (HIFF, Broad Humor) , Match- Associate Producer: (BIFF, GLF, Manhattan Film). Maryll’s plays and the occasional spectacle have been produced regionally in Chicago, Pittsburgh and State College. As an actor, favorite projects include: Off-Broadway: Marisol, Stormy Weather. TV: HBO, ABC. Recent Film: Thanksgiving Dinner. While you are hearing very personal stories and bearing witness to family secrecy and struggles in this podcast, Maryll just wants to talk about music- specifically breaking down old soul records that have been the building blocks for all of the hip hop we all know and love.
Esther de Rothschild is an educator and director/producer. She developed programs for teen girls at a nonprofit before becoming a public school teacher. She’s taught high school Humanities and filmmaking, and has directed and produced narrative and documentary shorts. Films that she and her students made have screened at Tribeca and other festivals. She also created The Love Vote, a platform where people who can’t vote share their stories to mobilize their communities. During the pandemic she organized Recollect, a collective commemoration for those who lost loved ones in isolation. Now, alongside teaching high school, she runs story circles with older adults at Life Story Club and is learning about podcasting at BRIC.
Elizabeth Graham is a first generation millennial woman with Costa Rican parents, born and raised in Brooklyn. She is a huge community advocate. As a teenager, Elizabeth volunteered at her local YMCA through the teen Leaders Club program, where youth engaged in various projects to contribute to the community. She has over 7 years experience in Workforce Development as an advocate for employment rights for individuals with disabilities. In 2018, she served as chair of the Economic Empowerment Committee for the Brooklyn NAACP. Currently, Elizabeth is an Equity Consultant for a Real Estate developer, spearheading a local hiring initiative for NYCHA residents surrounding the construction site. In her spare time, Elizabeth produces a podcast that explores the correlation between street life, and “9-5” work life. Elizabeth’s podcast will look at how street rules can apply to the everyday person, especially in the workplace. Through this analysis, the underdog may get tips and tricks to achieve success in their own endeavors.
Dejen Tesfagiorgis (Day-Jin Tess-foggy-oar-giss) is a writer, comedian, and recovered tech seller at Microsoft. He’s a Writing for Animation Fellow with PBS Kids, and has been in comedy videos for Disney+, NBC News Digital, Bleacher Report, Characters Welcome / Just for Laughs, and Cosmopolitan. In addition to performing at improv theaters in NYC, he livestreams with the edutainment brand EverScouts, and posts original sketches on his YouTube channel Deja Deja Comedy (5K followers).
Hailing from the South Carolina Lowcountry with a home base in Brooklyn, powerhouse vocalist Dale Novella brings Soul, Hip-Hop, R&b and Rock vibes to everything she creates. An entrepreneur with a cornucopia of talents, and ventures, she defies conventions and singular definitions. A certified Yogi and Teaching Artist with Community Word Project, The Dreamyard Project and Building Beats, and one of the three Co-Directors of the Teaching Artist Project, Dale Novella uses her gifts as a musician, singer/songwriter and yogi to help people find peace, to express their emotions, and to connect with themselves and the world around them. Dale manifests live music events (The Poet Will be Televised), Yoga, Health & Wellness workshops and is a youth educator who believes in the power of music and community. A veteran of the NYC Music scene, she debuted her self produced record SANG BXTCH!! in 2020 and has toured the U.S. and Europe extensively. Whether through song, meditation, or movement Dale Novella’s goal is to bring the world together in rhythm, one beat at a time. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Omar Ba is a community driven audio/video producer. Mr. Ba focuses on preserving the authentic culture and voices of Brooklyn through storytelling and visual presentation. After receiving his Bachelors of Arts in Audio/Radio Production, Omar independently created his very own short film and (self produced) 6 track EP in Brooklyn. This inspired his independent passion and drive for video content and audio production. After performing in LA, Ba was determined to make it in the audio field. Returning to NYC, Ba hopped around Brooklyn living in Williamsburg and Bed Stuy. He officially became a member at BRIC in 2022 and is currently producing his very first podcast called Where’s Brooklyn At releasing in June 2023. Lori Navarro is a Filipina researcher and designer based in Brooklyn, NY. She organizes the Marcos Walking Tour, which revisits the multi-million dollar Manhattan properties bought by Filipino dictator Ferdinand Marcos through stolen government money. A Manila native, Lori started the tour as a love letter to her homeland. In 2022, the Philippines elected Marcos Jr. as president – 32 years after sending his corrupt family into exile. To fight historical amnesia, Lori wants to engage Filipinos and Americans by taking them to a physical/audio tour of their connected past. She hopes that through the act of remembering, we can extricate ourselves from our broken political systems and create futures that serve us all.
Kadeem Lundy is a Brooklyn born and raised freelance journalist, and food blogger/critic. Lundy is a contributing writer for the digital men’s publication The Quintessential Gentleman as well as the entertainment industry news and events coverage website The Knockturnal. He has interviewed a number of prominent A- list talent in the entertainment industry as well as critiqued various restaurants and food trucks in New York City. Jordan Macy was born in Sucre, Bolivia, then spent several years in the Philippines until moving outside Washington DC in middle school. He attended the University of Missouri studying Advertising/Communications. After undergrad, he started his career as a Video Editor for a Production company in Chicago. In 2021 Jordan moved to New York City to attend the International Center of Photographies Documentary and Visual Journalism Program. Jordan is currently a freelance photojournalist receiving commissions from the New York Times and the Guardian. He also works as a documentarian for New York City Councilman Chi Ossé. Jordan’s personal Motto is “Don’t be afraid of Success”.
Evon Behnen is an educator and writer who taught special education in Brooklyn public and charter schools and currently designs interactive conversations and training simulations (video games) for education and healthcare settings. A 3rd generation American from a small German farming community in Minnesota, Evon has lived in Brooklyn, NY since 2010. Evon’s podcast is about exploring gender identity with a focus on what it means to be gender typical, and creating a welcoming space to discuss thoughts, questions, and doubts a typical person might have about the gender spectrum. Evon won’t ask for your pronouns, but identifies as trans nonbinary and prefers none or any pronouns be used.
Aqua Ruis grew up in a Salvadoran home in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Prior to relocating to Brooklyn she had a career in public health and a bustling side hustle as one of DC’s most popular photography experiences on Airbnb. Now based in Williamsburg, Aqua spends her time freelancing for companies like Hulu, Coachella, & YouTube. When caught “off-duty”, you can find her organizing in her communities, pet-sitting for friends, and going out of town on stargazing adventures. Her podcast, Starting Something New, is about the plausible and implausible things that happen when you’re brave enough to try. She is currently a resident DJ at The Moxy – Times Square. Sadikisha Saundra Collier is a native New Yorker, born and raised in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn N.Y. Sadikisha is a multi-media artist, but is primarily known and recognized as a Master printmaker. Her work ranges from prints, painting, collage, computer graphics, and stained glass. She also expresses herself through video editing and fashion design. She is a writer and poet whose work reflects her respect for African American culture, womanhood and her story as a visual artist. Sadikisha has a Masters in Education from Cambridge College in Boston, Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Museum and Gallery management Certificate from California College of Arts and Crafts. Collier’s work is in the collection of Ed Bradley of 60 Minutes, The Honorable David Dinkins, The Honorable Councilman Al Vann, Whitney Houston, Carver Bank, Thelonious Monk Jr., Valerie Bell-Bey, and a host of others. Sadikisha has exhibited with such notable artists as Jacob Lawrence, Tom Feelings, Otto Neals, more Bob Blackburn, Ernest Crichlow, Ann Tanksley, Ted Gunn, Vincent Smith, Varnette Honeywood and many others. President of the oldest African American art fair in NY, Fulton Art Fair 2011-2014. Her work has been sold at Sotheby’s auction house. Shown at the Schomburg. Collier is a Producer at BCAT Cable network and her artwork has been featured on the hit show “New York Undercover.” She is included in “Who’s Who in America”, a member of 100 Black Women, The National Conference of Artists, The Jamaica Arts Coop, and Where We At Black Women Artists. Sadikisha has also been a 2003 Nubian Women’s Circle of Art Award Honoree and a finalist in two projects with the MTA Arts for transit. (Utica Avenue A train and Franklin Ave. Shuttle) She was commissioned to design two images for A&B carpets which were distributed in stores throughout the U.S. She also designed 24 book marks for A&B books. Sadikisha’s artwork reflects her love of family, music, and recording her life experience on our planet earth as am African. American woman. Presently Sadikisha is working on a “Healing,” series. The Stoop at BRIC House is a public cultural gathering space featuring free, drop-in programming, and offering a place to sit, observe, and participate in multi-disciplinary work.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building. Masks are encouraged but not required in all BRIC operated spaces. If you have questions regarding this protocol, please email [email protected]

The main floor of BRIC House has an accessible entrance on Rockwell Place, in addition to an accessible, all-gender bathroom.
