NOSAJ THING, a.k.a. the L.A.-based Korean-American DJ/producer Jason Chung, will transform the Bandshell into a pulsing, ecstatic dancefloor with “music that evokes at once the infinite blackness of deep space and the curving, gleaming chrome that moves through it.” (Pitchfork) Chung has produced tracks for Busdriver, Nocando, Flash Bang Grenada, Kendrick Lamar, and Chance the Rapper. But it’s on his own albums that his singular skills as a beatmaker shine brightest; his latest album, Parallels from 2017—a comeback record of sorts made after his gear and years of work were stolen— is a “curvilinear and sinuous 30-minute odyssey from one of the most consistent and daring producers working.” (Onion AV Club)
Last year KIMBRA gave us Primal Heart, “a slick electronic pop album teeming with sharp hooks” (Rolling Stone) that showcased the killer R&B delivery that has made the New Zealander an in-demand collaborator with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Gotye. Her music, though pop-focused, is boundaryless in its own way; her diverse influences encompass Prince, Björk, Minnie Riperton, and Jeff Buckley.
BELLS ATLAS’ Afropop futurism is a sound “pretty easy to get lost in … lush harmonies fill your ears … their groove is anything but ordinary." (Okayplayer) The enchanting Oakland five-piece has been making waves with its latest release, the aptly titled The Mystic.
