Honoring Leslie G. Schultz

Join us in honoring Leslie G. Schultz for her extraordinary 13-year tenure as BRIC President. During her time at BRIC Leslie has led the organization through a period of remarkable growth and transition, including development of BRIC House in the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District. Leslie also has vastly expanded BRIC’s programming, education initiatives, and community engagement work to transform BRIC into a vibrant, $15 million high-impact institution committed to arts for all.

Performance by Common

This year’s Opening Night Concert will feature socially-conscious hip hop performer and actor Common. As a Grammy-award winning artist, Common has become a prominent voice in hip-hop's new millennium renaissance. Common also delivered a memorable performance as co-star in 2014 film Selma, for which he also composed the Academy Award winning song “Glory.”

After Party featuring DJ Spinna

Dance the night away at a lively After-Party following the performance, featuring Brooklyn-born hip hop producer DJ Spinna. As cornerstone of hip hop’s late 90’s indie-uprise, DJ Spinna has broken down musical barriers between the worlds of hip hop, deep house, soul and jazz through esteemed artist collaborations and an obsessively curated vinyl selection.

Public Art Installation by Grimanesa Amorós

On this special evening celebrating BRIC's 40th anniversary, the first ever large-scale contemporary art commission for the Prospect Park Bandshell will be revealed to the public. Designed by internationally renowned artist Grimanesa Amorós, this stunning light installation will serve as a beacon to bring together audiences throughout the summer.
