The Latin Alternative Music Conference returns to the Bandshell with a bang for its annual showcase — this year an especially diverse lineup of established and emerging artists that promises to be a highlight of the summer season.

CARLA MORRISON’s indie pop has always had a depth and power not commonly associated with the genre because of her remarkable voice, which “has the desperate grandeur associated with Robert Smith or Björk.” (New Yorker) The Mexico City-based artist won two Latin Grammys for her 2012 record Déjenme Llorar, but her last album, 2015’s Amor Supremo, marks a dramatic turn in her art — it has a grand sweep suggested by the title and positions Morrison herself as “a doomed, spectral torch singer, incandescent with longing, desire, and grief.” (New Yorker)

The bluesy Americana of HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF, led by Puerto Rican-American singer Alynda Lee Segarra, “sweeps across eras and genres with grace and grit.” (NPR) The band hails from New Orleans, and has been on a fast upwards trajectory since a breakout performance at the 2013 Newport Folk Festival left American Songwriter “awestruck” and solidified Segarra’s place at the forefront of a new generation of young musicians celebrating and reimagining American roots music.

Brooklyn’s own BUSCABULLA, a project of Puerto Rican designer and Brooklyn resident Raquel Berrios and Luis Alfredo Del Valle, starts off the evening with a set of electro-psych pop.

Presented in association with the Latin Alternative Music Conference.
