Join us on Fri, July 21 for a 2023 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! concert featuring The Chelsea Symphony feat. Lady Jess and Lucrecia Dalt.

** Arrive early for a conversation In The Tent with Nabil Ayers. The son of jazz-funk legend Roy Ayers, Nabil will discuss his unorthodox origin story and upbringing, a career in music and finding family in unexpected places.**

The Chelsea Symphony’s mission is to radically democratize the classical orchestral music experience. They’ll perform Grace Williams’ “Calm Sea in Summer” from Sea Sketches and Max Richter’s The New Four Seasons – Vivaldi Recomposed ft. violinist Lady Jess, who has performed with stars like Earth Wind & Fire, St. Vincent, and Beyoncé. Lucrecia Dalt will open with the sonic constellations and lush tones defining her exploratory sound. Let the music and beauty of Prospect Park transport you while reflecting on this moment of environmental distress.

*Please Note: A limited amount of chairs will be available at this show, but you are also permitted to bring your own.

About the artists

Hailed as an “enterprising group of young musicians” by Time Out and “New York’s most intimate orchestral experience” by Lucid CultureThe Chelsea Symphony (TCS) upends the traditional hierarchy of the classical orchestra: members rotate as featured soloists, conductors, and composers. Founded in 2005, the self-governing ensemble has quickly grown its reputation as a vibrant, innovative group, dedicated to making the classical orchestral experience more welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for all audiences. The orchestra remains equally committed to socially engaged programming, professional development opportunities for musicians, and works by living composers. From appearances in the Amazon Original Series Mozart in the Jungle to providing accessible concerts for people detained on Rikers Island in partnership with the NYC Department of Correction, TCS is the height of the modern-day orchestra—a cultural and musical identity centered in the heart of Manhattan’s vibrant Chelsea neighborhood.

Tracing a timeline of Lucrecia Dalt’s sonic trajectory is an elusive endeavor. As a musician, sound artist, performer, and composer, Dalt has traversed a myriad of musical portals, relaying innate sensory impulses and excavated references into luminous constellations. Shimmering with modulation and the incandescent tones of her voice, Dalt’s compositions summon magnetic atmospheres in her distinctive, and ever-expanding, universe of sound. Following the acclaimed releases of Anticlines (2018) and No era sólida (2020) as part of the RVNG Intl. family, Dalt returns in 2022 with her eighth solo album ¡Ay! – conjuring a new realm where her signature experimentation and treasured early influences meld together. Glimmers of her musical origins, also diffused through her previous records, are cast by specters of growing up in Colombia, where a spectrum of tropical music genres formed a part of her surrounding environments.
