BUD LIGHT MUSIC SERIES

CHRONIXX is one of Kingston's hottest new artists, "modernizing reggae staples and breathing new life into the roots reggae movement." (The Guardian) His style recalls the Rastafarian golden age of the 1970s, with uplifting, consciousness-raising lyrics set to deep, swooning rhythms. His life in music started very young – at the age of 11, he recorded a gospel-inspired original with producer Danny Browne, and sang backup vocals with Lutan Fyah. Now 24, he is working on his third LP and increasingly delving into themes of pacifism and global understanding.

New York's all-star ensemble CHOP and QUENCH formed as the cast and band of FELA! The Musical, and have become some of the foremost interpreters of Kuti's life work. Lead singer Sahr Ngaujah was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway musical, and the band has had the opportunity to accompany Femi Kuti and Angelique Kidjo on stage. It is the city's rowdiest Afrobeat! Nigerian-born artist, musician, and activist LAOLU will open the night with a multi-faceted performance – first, he will perform with his band Afromysterics, then will engage in the Sacred Art of the Ori Ritual (body-painting). His work as a body-painter found its way into Beyoncé's acclaimed Lemonade videos.
