Ezra Jack Keats Family Concert

Brooklyn-based musician and long-time Celebrate Brooklyn! alum Dan Zanes is on a mission to introduce his musical friends to his neighborhood friends and encourage new feel-good musical collaborations.  Headlining everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Melbourne International Arts Festival, “Zanes’ kids music works because it is not kids music; it’s just music – music that’s unsanitized, unpasteurized, that’s organic even.” (The New York Times Magazine)  His 2007 album Catch That Train! won the Grammy for Best Musical Album for Children and brings together the Kronos Quartet, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Father Goose, Zanes’ mother-in-law, and the children of South Africa’s Agape Orphanage.  His latest Album, 76 Trombones, is a collection of classic Broadway tunes geared towards introducing a new generation to the standards. For the past several years, Dan Zanes and Friends have invited young musicians to join them in concert, representing a wide range of musical styles and traditions from mariachi to African drum and dance. Here, Zanes teams up with the Brooklyn Youth Orchestra and dancers from Bed Stuy Veterans for an all-Brooklyn blowout. The annual Ezra Jack Keats Family Concert celebrates the legacy of the trailblazing children’s author.

This performance is made possible with support from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation. Special thanks to Scarff Weisberg, Inc.
