Join us on Fri, June 24 for a 2022 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! concert featuring beloved Latin Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Fonseca with an opening performance by La Cumbiamba eNeYé.

On a world tour for his newest release Viajante, Fonseca will dazzle the Bandshell with his signature mix of pop and traditional vallenato rhythms from Colombia. The Afro-Indigenous-Colombian ensemble La Cumbiamba eNeYé recreates the traditional open-air Cumbia gatherings of their homeland.

*Please Note: Chairs will be available at this show, but you are also permitted to bring your own. For our d/Deaf and hard of hearing communities, we will have an ASL interpreter at the left side of the stage.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Born Juan Fernando Fonseca, Colombian singer and songwriter Fonseca has received seven Latin GRAMMYs® from 17 nominations, as well as a GRAMMY® nomination. He began his professional recording career with his self-titled debut album. International fame arrived with his 2005 album Corazón, which featured the hit single “Te Mando Flores.” Since then, he has released eight more albums that have produced multiple #1 airplay hits on the Billboard charts. His album discography includes Gratitud (2008), Ilusión (2011), Fonseca Sinfónico con la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia (2014), Conexión (2015), Homenaje a la música de Diomedes Díaz (2015), Agustín (2018), and Compadres (2020). Headlining concerts in Latin America, Europe, China, and the United States, Fonseca has most recently dazzled audiences with his Simples Corazones Tour and his Compadres Tour with Andrés Cepeda, which visited over 25 U.S. cities. His most recent singles “Tú 1ero” and “2005,” the latter a collaboration with Greeicy and Cali & El Dandee, have garnered over 12 million YouTube views and 14 million Spotify streams.

The powerfully rhythmic and melodic Afro-Indigenous-Colombian music of La Cumbiamba eNeYé recreates the traditional open-air Cumbia gatherings known as cumbiambas, the ensemble’s namesake. With their densely danceable percussive grooves, punctuated with their indigenous flutes, melodic overtones, and charming vocals, La Cumbiamba eNeYé invites listeners to join their celebration of Colombian culture. Founded by multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator Martin Vejarano and a group of core musicians who moved to New York in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the group combines the diversity of sounds from the Cumbia traditions of their native country while infusing these roots with the sensibilities cultivated in their current metropolitan home. La Cumbiamba has established themselves as one of the finest cumbia-roots ensembles in the US.

Please note: RSVPs are encouraged but not required. Entry is first come first served, but RSVPs help you stay up-to-date on show information. See you at #CelebrateBrooklyn!
