World Premiere

Unique and ravishingly beautiful, THE HUBBLE CANTATA fuses a major musical performance—featuring a 20-piece ensemble, a 100 person choir, and two Metropolitan Opera stars—with a virtual reality experience amidst a 360-degree sound installation. A portion of the work composed by Paola Prestini, features a virtual reality experience by Eliza McNitt, which will take the audience on a journey inside of the Orion Nebula to reveal the cosmic connections between humans and the stars. The stunning visuals—combined with performances by Nathan Gunn, Jessica Rivera, the Norwegian string orchestra 1B1, NOVUS NY, The Washington Chorus, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus—will make for a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Cardboard VR headsets will be given out on site.

The innovative trio TIGUE opens: half new music ensemble, half art-rock band, they unite a homegrown ethos and conservatory precision to create something magical. The group’s debut album Peaks (New Amsterdam Records, 2015) is “an imaginative, distinctive, hypnotic yet kinetic blend of indie classical, minimalism, post-rock and drone music.” (New York Music Daily).

Come by the Bandshell early to talk about all things space with former NASA astronaut MICHAEL MASSIMINO, the author of the upcoming book Spaceman, and the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York, who will be on site for the evening!
