Join us on Thu, August 3 for a 2023 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! concert featuring Jorge DrexlerCimafunk, and Julieta Rada.

World-renowned singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler’s sound blends the traditional rhythms of his native Uruguay with samba, bossa nova, pop, jazz, ambient, and even EDM. His music is defined by wistful wordplay and sonic experimentation, often breaking down the materials of instruments like the guitar to create exciting new sounds. Also performing is GRAMMY-nominated Cimafunk, whose music infuses classical Cuban rhythms with afrobeat, funk, and hip-hop. Latin GRAMMY-nominated Uruguayan-Argentine singer Julieta Rada opens.

*Please Note: A limited amount of chairs will be available at this show, but you are also permitted to bring your own.

About the artists

Jorge Drexler is an Uruguayan musician and singer-songwriter with a long professional career in music and performing arts. Over a 30 year career, he has recorded fourteen studio albums and has toured all over the world, which has allowed him to know and appreciate many territories and cultures. Drexler is a well-recognized and awarded artist, and to his credit he has an Oscar Award (2004) and thirteen Latin Grammy’s (2014, 2018, 2021, 2022). After almost five years of record silence, Drexler released his new album, Tinta y Tiempo.

Cimafunk is a Grammy-nominated, Afro-Cuban Rockstar. His name refers to his heritage as a “cimarrón,” Cubans of African descent who resisted and escaped slavery, as well as to the essence of his music that aims to subvert classical Cuban rhythms with innovative mixes of funk, afrobeat, and hip-hop. Cimafunk has received overwhelming praise touring the U.S. and Europe, making a name for himself as one of today’s great showmen, performing an electric live show with La Tribu, his 9-person band from Havana. His live show is a celebration of groove and an unforgettable sonic and bodily experience. Cimafunk is redefining contemporary Cuban music as well as Afro-Latin identity and the fusion of black cultures. His latest album, El Alimento, was nominated at the 2023 GRAMMY Awards for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.

Julieta Rada started her career singing at the age of 16. Since then she performed at stages around the world with internationally acclaimed artists such as Fito Paez, Charly García, Hugo Fattoruso, Ruben Rada, Ciro y Los Persas, Illya Kuriaki and the Valderramas, La Vela Puerca, Joss Stone, among others, as well as her own solo project. She is the youngest daughter of one of the most representative artists in Uruguayan music, Rubén Rada. She has multiple awards and nominations such as “Best New Artist” in the 2015’s LATIN GRAMMYS. She also won the GARDEL AWARDS two times (the most relevant music award in Argentina) in 2016 in the category of “Best Pop Artist” and in 2019 as “Best Pop Album.” She also won three GRAFFITI AWARDS (the most relevant music awards in Uruguay) in 2013 and 2016 in the category of “Best female artist” and in 2019 she won “Best Pop album.”
