Join us on Thu, July 13 for a 2023 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! dance performance: NUTTIN' BUT A WORD by Rennie Harris Puremovement Street Dance Theater, featuring an opening performance by Decora.

Join us as we celebrate street dance with Rennie Harris Puremovement Street Dance Theater. Harris, born and raised in Philadelphia, is one of the art form’s leading ambassadors and believes that any story of hip-hop without dance is incomplete. Opener Decora uses the art of language and visual art to create an entirely new medium of expression, blending electronic music, rap, and poetry in his compelling performances.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Rennie Harris Puremovement Street Dance Theater will perform NUTTIN' BUT A WORD, an acclaimed work that pushes the boundaries of street dance vocabulary. It forces its audience to view street dance through a different lens. Challenging the viewer's perspective of street dance or hip-hop dance and its culture, Nuttin' But A Word takes you on a dramatic and abstract journey, twisting, matching, juxtaposing, and pulling vocabulary and music in ways unimaginable. Harris chooses to end this work in a traditional hip-hop celebration, in what Africanists may refer to as the "Bantaba."

Decora is a rap artist and performance poet based in New York. He is best known for his unique brand of composition which blends electronic and rap music with visual art. Since his debut album Bread and Oats in 2015, Decora has shared bills and stages with Justine Sky, DJ Khalid, Fat Joe, Meek Mill, Lauryn Hill, and T.I, to name a few. After performing across the U.S. and Canada, headlining festivals in the Pacific Northwest and New York, Decora received rave reviews by influential media outlets such as NPR, Highsnobiety, MTV, Chronogram, Upstater, AfroPunk, PopSugar, and Genius. In 2017 and 2018 Decora Sold out Lincoln Center, The Blue Note, and has jam-packed over 90 concerts across the U.S. and Canada. In addition to performing, he began writing music for Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It, B.E.T's In Contempt, and for brands like Jordan, Leica, and Bacardi. Throughout the pandemic, Decora continued to write songs for movies and shows on Netflix, Hulu, and CBS. In addition to licensing his music Decora is releasing another album and poetry book in the fall of 2023.
