June 2017 is New York Music Month

The illustrious experimental rock trio YEASAYER makes their bandshell debut in an evening of "pan-ethnic spiritualism, filtered through walls of echo and layers of gossamer synths." (Pitchfork) Over four records as Brooklyn indie darlings they have built a meticulous sound that invites careful inspection, or can simply wash over you like a wave, by turns danceable and disorienting. They visit our stage behind their new release, 2016's Amen & Goodbye, which was hailed by NPR as "a bricolage of the band's greatest strengths: thoughtful writing, synthesized global sounds, and delightful psychedelic confusion."

POLIÇA burst from the same Minneapolis scene that brought us Gayngs and Volcano Choir, and can be described as "a heavily digitized Norah Jones atop Radiohead at its most polyrhythmic." (Pitchfork) In a unique and powerful juxtaposition, singer Channy Leaneagh tackles dark, existential questions with a hazy voice that "sounds more like she's singing brushstrokes than words." (Pitchfork) Shoegazing, shimmering rockers CYMBALS EAT GUITARS round out this triple bill – they met as high school friends in Staten Island, and have gone on to tour with The Flaming Lips and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. The New York Times calls them "a band that lives for dynamic upheavals. One moment its lead singer and guitarist, Joseph D'Agostino, sings in a fragile, breathy high croon; microseconds later, he's screaming and flailing at his guitar, swathed in reverb and effects, while the band bashes behind him."
