BRIClab Video Art 2021-2022 Public Screening
Over the last year, our residents have honed the media production skills they acquired during their BRIClab: Video Art Residency. The result is 6 visually stunning narratives told through video that we know you’re going to love.
The BRIClab: Video Art residency track is a year-long residency for professional, local visual artists who have a desire to explore video and audio as distinct mediums, or as part of an interdisciplinary practice. Artist applications are received through an open call and chosen by a panel of artist alumni and BRIClab program managers.
Meet the artists
Buzz Slutzky (they/them)
Slutzky participated in residencies at NARS Foundation in Brooklyn, NY and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT. Their work has been exhibited at the Assembly Room, Gallery MC, the Leslie Lohman Museum of Art, and NARS Foundation, all in NY, as well as the Institute of Contemporary Art University of Pennsylvania, and the L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery at San Joaquin Delta College, Stockton, CA. They currently teach at SUNY Purchase College and work as a Museum Educator at the Leslie Lohman Museum of Art. http://www.buzzslutzky.com/
Slutzky’s essay film uses nonfiction storytelling, documentary footage, and drawings of archival images from instructional manuals circa 1950s-1970s.
Danny Greenberg (he/they)
Danny Greenberg is an artist, writer, and arts administrator based in New York City. They received their BFA from Washington University in St Louis in Printmaking and Drawing in 2011, their MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Print Media in 2014, and attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2018. Danny has participated in The Drawing Center Viewing Program, The Art & Law Program, The Interdisciplinary Art and Critical Theory Program, Marble House Project, Anchor Graphics, and Anderson Ranch Fall Residency. Professionally, Danny is Director of Programs at The Honey Pump, Co-founder of Artelier with Troy Hoffman, and part-time faculty at Parsons. Project title: The Choreography of Breath
Greenberg’s associative video essay is a cantorial probing into the mental state of arts workers during the pandemic—giving voice to the oddly specific issues they faced at the start of the lockdown.
Kat Geng (she/her)
Geng’s recent solo shows include those at The Royal Nonesuch Gallery and NIAD Art Center, both CA. She has also taken part in group exhibitions at Superchief Gallery NFT and Field Projects Gallery, both New York, NY; Center for Reconciliation, Providence, RI; SOMArts Cultural Center and The Luggage Store Gallery, both San Francisco, CA; and Sanchez Art Center, Pacifica, CA. Geng was a fellow at the Bronx Museum of Art and is the recipient of the Vermont Studio Center Grant and the Counterpulse Artist Activator Grant. Geng’s video project speaks to notions of place and belonging, highlighting puppets and their expressive nature while engaging in semi-collaborative approaches to storytelling and incorporating a multitude of perspectives.
Macon Reed (she/her)
Reed has completed residencies and fellowships at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, Eyebeam Center for Art and Technology, and the A.I.R Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Reed’s work has been exhibited at Kate Werble Gallery, A.I.R Gallery, the Knockdown Center, PULSE NYC Special Projects, BRIC Arts Media, Spring Break, and the Abrons Art Center, all in NY; the Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts and the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, all in San Francisco, CA. https://www.maconreed.com/
Nooshin Rostami (they/them)
Rostami has exhibited in solo and group settings internationally including Holographic Center, California Museum of Photography, Jardines de Mexico, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibition -LACE, Queens Museum, and Flux Factory. They received an MFA from Brooklyn College-CUNY (2011) and Since 2014 they’ve participated in residencies locally and internationally such as Tifa working studios (Pune, India), NARS Foundation, and Art Omi. https://www.nooshinrostami.com/
Project title: Heartbeat of a window
A magic realist short film contemplating the psychological experience in the liminal space between life and the afterlife when death comes. The piece offers a space of curiosity on a subject matter that sits in the darkest folds of the human mind.
Zachary Fabri (he/him)
Fabri has exhibited at the Annex Gallery in Houston, TX; Aljira Center for Contemporary Art in Newark, NJ; Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, FL; Galerie Open in Berlin, Germany; the Studio Museum in Harlem, Ryan Lee Gallery, Rockland Center for the Arts, and Art in General, all in NY. Project Title: An Open Letter to My Sister
An Open Letter to My Sister is a multidisciplinary project inspired by James Baldwin’s letter to Angela Davis while she was jailed in 1970. Fabri’s project combines video, theater, dance, and sound to create discourse on prison abolition.

The Stoop at BRIC House is a public cultural gathering space featuring free, drop-in programming, and offering a place to sit, observe, and participate in multi-disciplinary work.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building. Masks are encouraged but not required in all BRIC operated spaces. If you have questions regarding this protocol, please email [email protected]

The main floor of BRIC House has an accessible entrance on Rockwell Place, in addition to an accessible, all-gender bathroom. The BRIC Media Center, located on the 2nd floor, is accessible via elevator. The Gallery level is accessible via a wheelchair lift. Portable FM assistive listening devices are available for programs on the Stoop and in the Ballroom upon request. About BRIClab
BRIClab is a multi-disciplinary residency program created to advance opportunities for visual artists, performers, and media makers. BRIClab offers emerging and mid-career artists essential resources, mentorships, and opportunities to share their work. The residency aims to build a stronger and more diverse artistic community in Brooklyn by supporting long term growth and fostering relationships across disciplines.
The program’s four tracks are Contemporary Art, Film + TV, Performing Arts, and Video Art. Each track offers unique resources designed to meet the needs of varied artistic practices. Residents receive additional financial support, mentorship, skills-based learning opportunities, and documentation of their work.
