Each month, the Brooklyn Poetry Slam brings together Brooklyn’s best slam poets for a monthly gathering of words and wisdom. For this special JazzFest edition of The Brooklyn Poetry Slam, our guest poet and hosts Mahogany L. Browne and DJ Jive Poetic highlight the crisscrossing influences and beats of jazz, poetry and hip-hop. The Slam will be followed by an Open Mic, so come early to sign-up and make your voice heard.  As Mahogany says, “These poets will make you feel things.”

FEATURED POET: Shanelle Gabriel (pictured at left)
HASHTAG: #BrooklynPoetrySlam

Shanelle Gabriel does it all: soulful singing, awesome spoken word poetry, lyrics for days, and all while advocating for Lupus. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she has toured both nationally and internationally, hitting cities from LA to Vancouver to Johannesburg, South Africa. Frequently compared to Lauryn Hill and the super duo Floetry wrapped-in-one, Shanelle effortlessly blends her soulful singing with elements of spoken word and hip-hop, as well as fusing original music and poems with familiar hit songs.

PLEASE NOTE: We have reached the max capacity for RSVPs for this event. However, admittance is still first come, first serve (whether you have RSVP'ed or not). The Stoop has a limited capacity and seating is NOT guarenteed.

OTHER FALL 2017 SLAM DATES:

  • Monday, September 18 | 7PM
  • Monday, November 6 | 7PM
  • Monday, December 18 | 7PM
