We are putting the S.T.E.A.M. in Steampunk. Join us as we mix up art and technology for a day of embracing a “do it yourself” attitude. Express your individuality as you dig into S.T.E.A.M. and Steampunk-inspired activities with a punk rock edge. Experiment with printmaking and wearables, explore contemporary art in the Gallery, and enjoy exciting performances. The day ends with our feel-good family dance party hosted by Party Like Brooklyn, Baby!

Art Activity 1: Punk Patches
Design your own punk-inspired patch with a message or symbol to pin to your favorite shirt, hat or backpack. 

Art Activity 2: Steampunk Spectacles
Inspired by Steampunk goggles and Afro-futurist artist Cyrus Kabiru participants will use industrial gears and metal-like materials to create eye-wear sculpture Art that changes how you see.

Art Activity 3: Wearable L.E.Ds
Inspired by Steampunk medallions, time pieces, jewelry and technology participants will light up their outfit by using industrial-like materials and L.E.D. battery lights to create their own glowing medallions or wrist bands.

Return to analog photography, put your fancy camera away and build your own camera. Construct, design, and decorate a one of a kind pinhole camera that is simple to make and does not need electronics to work.

Move your family dance party from the living room to the BRIC House Ballroom and dance it out! FamAJam presents an after­noon dance party featuring real music spun and mixed by real DJs blend­ing clas­sic disco tunes from the 70s, & 80s with today’s hottest dance tunes that creates a child-proof dis­co for tod­dlers, pre-schoolers, and par­ents look­ing to let loose!

Venue Information:

BRIC House is Brooklyn’s cultural living room: a 40,000 square foot multi-disciplinary arts and media complex in the former Strand Theatre, where emerging and established artists can create work that deepens their practice and engages the diverse communities of the borough. 

Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building. Masks are encouraged but not required in all BRIC operated spaces. If you have questions regarding this protocol, please email Safety@bricartsmedia.org. BRIC is committed to welcoming people of all abilities. BRIC's main entrance, located on Rockwell Street, is fully accessible. In addition the main floor of BRIC House has an accessible, all-gender bathroom. The BRIC Media Center, located on the 2nd floor, is accessible via elevator. The Gallery level is accessible via a wheelchair lift. Portable FM assistive listening devices are available for programs on the Stoop and in the Ballroom upon request.
