Prospect Park gets a tropical blast of Carnival heat as Trinidad’s KES, a band of brothers that has taken the soca world by storm with hits like Wotless and Tuesday on the Rocks, brings its “bigger, better, crazier, sexier” (Caribbean Beat) island pop sound to town. Formed in 2005, the group quickly rocketed to stardom on the undeniable high-energy charm of leader Kees Dieffenthaller and the infectious rhythms laid down by his brothers Hans (drums), John (guitar), and their best friend Riad Boochoon (bass).

KUENTA i TAMBU (KiT) incites frenzy on the dance floor with an explosive cocktail mixing the Afro Caribbean party music of its Curuçao heritage with club beats from its Amsterdam home. The band’s name translates to “Stories and Drums” in Papiamentu, the language spoken on the islands of Curuçao, Aruba, and Bonaire (Dutch Antilles). KiT formed in 2005 after a series of educational projects at schools and theaters to introduce the music and culture of Curuçao to children in the Netherlands. The group has evolved into a uniquely joyful enterprise, putting on live shows that are fully loaded with humor, sensuality, and the driving rhythms of their signature Global Bass/Tambutronic sound.

Local steel drum band Steel Sensations starts things off with a rousing wave of tropical percussion and DJ Dr Wax will spin classic calypso and soca to keep the juices flowing between sets.
