An elevated hybrid of jazz, hip-hop, and R&B leaps from the Grammy-winning fingers of the “supple, simmering pianist” (NPR Music) Robert Glasper—a fusion that finds its most potent expression with his exceptional band ROBERT GLASPER EXPERIMENT. Glasper has collaborated with a who’s who list of R&B and hop-hop: his most recent album, last year’s Black Radio 2, features Common, Emile Sandé, Anthony Hamilton, Snoop Dog, Jill Scott, and Lupe Fiasco. He rolls into the Bandshell with the stalwart Brooklyn TALIB KWELI on board to add some lyrical pyrotechnics to the mix.

The versatile percussionist and composer GLENN KOTCHE's solo work—on glorious display in Adventureland, released earlier this year on the new music label Cantaloupe—is “as rooted around high-brow concepts as it is in rhythmic dynamicity and melodic bemusement.” (Pitchfork) Though best known as Wilco’s drummer, this indie legend has classical chops to burn.

AJA MONET, the youngest winner ever of the Nuyorican Poets Café Grand Slam Champion title, takes command of the stage for an opening set. Monet independently published her first book of poetry, The Black Unicorn Sings (2010), and collaborated with poet/musician Saul Williams on Chorus: A Literary Mixtape (MTV Books/Simon & Schuster, 2012). An ebook of poems entitled Inner-City Chants & Cyborg Cyphers is out this year.
