Proof of Residency 101
BRIC’s cohort and certification courses are exclusively for Brooklyn Residents. In order to register for our cohort and certification courses, you must show proof of Brooklyn residency. Showing proof of Brooklyn residency is a simple and easy process. Please just bring in a current utility bill AND an unexpired ID so that we can verify your Brooklyn residency.
- Why do I have to show that I’m a Brooklyn resident?
- Great question! We are the Brooklyn-focused, Brooklyn-centric Brooklyn Free Speech, so we want to ensure that Brooklynites are getting their voices heard on our channels.
- If you are not certified, you cannot be given access to our camera, audio, or studio equipment.
- What can you accept for proof of Brooklyn residency?
The documents you submit must list your name and Brooklyn address AND be no more than two months old.- Gas bill

- What can’t you accept for proof of Brooklyn residency?
- We cannot accept documents from a financial or health institution. E.g. no bank / credit card statements, IRS, or medical forms.

- Driver or Non-Driver, NY State ID

- Any photo ID issued by a government agency
- Not a Brooklyn resident?
- Do you have options for makers who don’t live in Brooklyn? Yes! A Brooklyn-based non-profit can sponsor you to become certified to create programming on their behalf. Email [email protected] to learn more.
