OPENING RECEPTION: JUNE 27, 2018 | 7-9PM
ON VIEW: JUNE 28 - SEPTEMBER 5, 2018 (EXTENDED)
CURATED BY: SOL NOVA
Guyanese American multimedia artist Theresa Chromati will create an immersive, surreal world brought to life by videos, sound, sculpture, and a mural. In this installation, Chromati focuses on black women's energy a source of power that is often consumed without their consent and as a source that is often stretched until exhausted. Chromati molds bodacious legs as the soft sculpture foundation for a larger than life electrical outlet. Within this electrical outlet or "power source," is a montage of video works capturing encounters from her lived experiences and the way in which energy ebbs and flows.
Theresa Chromati is a Brooklyn-based artist who received her BFA from the Pratt Institute. She has had solo exhibitions at Platform Gallery, Baltimore, MD; and New Image Art, Los Angeles, CA. She has been included in group exhibitions at MoCADA, Brooklyn, NY; Kravets Wehby Gallery (forthcoming) and the Czech Center, both NY; Zero Zero Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; and Kudos Gallery, Sydney, Australia.
