"If you've ever caught Antibalas live over the course of their nearly two-decade existence, you already know what an overwhelming and exhilarating experience their music is in-person." - Stereogum

BRIC JazzFest kicks off with a free outdoor concert featuring beloved Brooklyn Afrobeat collective Antibalas. Antibalas has long been revered for re-popularizing Femi Kuti’s classic Afrobeat sound while adding their distinct Brooklyn grit and spirit of improvisation to the mix. Punk rock, free jazz, and hip-hop seep into the group’s expansive works and their newest album, When The Gods Are At Peace (Daptone Records), which examines oppression in 1800s America and the parallels drawn between then and now.

Celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2018, Antibalas performed an unforgettable show for 6,000 attendees at the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival last July, and their BRIC JazzFest kick-off concert promises to be an equally outstanding hometown show for the band at Downtown Brookyn’s newest outdoor gathering space.

This concert is co-presented with the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.
