Brooklyn Free Speech presents a panel of podcasting hosts and producers who will share insight into the struggles and triumphs of sharing personal details over an intimate medium.
As a medium, podcasting opens up many options for independent expression. But what are the risks and obstacles of sharing personal and intimate details with a growing audience? And does podcasting present a new route for personal and documentary storytelling? Brooklyn Free Speech presents this Media Talks event featuring producers and hosts from public radio and independent productions who will share their insights within this burgeoning medium.
Speakers include:
Andrea Silenzi -- an accomplished radio producer known for her innovative and personal brand of storytelling. From going on Planet Money to get dating advice from an economist, to recording her IUD insertion, the first years of Why Oh Why were full of surprising moments and conversations. Previously, Andrea was the founding producer of The Gist with Mike Pesca.
Giulia Rozzi and Will Miles -- the hosts of Hopefully We Don’t Break Up where comedians and real-life couple Giulia and Will welcome another couple onto the show to have an honest, humorous and thought-provoking conversation about love, relationships and how to make it all work.
Lu Olkowski -- an independent radio producer who is drawn to stories that evolve through multiple generations: how pride or shame in one’s racial identity, poverty and artistic impulse can be passed down in families. Untangling what is said and what isn't said, she uses the sounds and silences of past and present to create unusually intimate stories.
Fran Tirado of the podcast Food 4 Thot: A new podcast discussing sex, relationships, race, identity, what we like to read, and who we like to read.

The Stoop at BRIC House is a public cultural gathering space featuring free, drop-in programming, and offering a place to sit, observe, and participate in multi-disciplinary work.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building.
