Just like that Ian Dury song by the same name, David Byrne brings us a refreshing reminder that, despite troubling times, there are still many good, inspiring things happening in our community and in the world.

David Byrne cofounded Talking Heads and created the label Luaka Bop. Recent projects: Joan of Arc: Into the Fire, a musical about challenging the powerful and believing in the impossible; The Institute Presents: Neurosociety, an immersive production developed with working neuroscientists; Contemporary Color, a live event which paired 10 high school color guards with contemporary musicians; Here Lies Love, a disco-opera about Imelda Marcos authored with Fatboy Slim; Love This Giant, an album with St. Vincent; How Music Works, a book about how music is shaped by its time and place. He has been recognized with an Academy Award, Golden Globe, Grammy, OBIE, Outer Critics Circle, three Drama Desk, five Lucille Lortel, and two Theatre World Awards.

Reasons to be Cheerful will be followed by an OPENing Night Dance Party with DJ Geko Jones.

NOTE: Capacity on the BRIC House Stoop is limited. Overflow space will be available, however, seating may be limited in the overflow room. Admission is on a first come, first served basis, whether you have RSVP'ed or not. Please come early to ensure entry and seating.

The BRIC OPEN Festival aims shine a light on the power of inclusive, participatory arts & media programming to shake up our ideas about who makes and consumes culture, whose voices and stories sit at the center of artistic creation, and how we come together to imagine, and move toward, the future we want.

In an effort to make The BRIC OPEN Festival truly accessible, all events are FREE with RSVP, but if you have the means, and you value artistic and cultural work, please consider making a donation to support the continued health of this programming at BRIC. Donate here!
