The Future is Bright is a performative reading, which excavates the narrative of BRIC Biennial artist Katya Grokhovsky's 94-year-old, World War II Veteran Grandmother who survived the war by serving in Soviet army hospitals in Russia and Ukraine as a cook and a singer. Employing voice, poetic text, and fragments of songs in Russian, Ukrainian and English, The Future is Bright highlights the incomprehensibility of trauma, alienation, displacement and ultimate survival in the past, whilst evoking the necessary hope and optimism in the future.
This will be followed by a talk-back with Katie Hector, artist, organizer, independent curator.

Katya Grokhovsky has had solo exhibitions at ChaShaMa and Galerie Protégé, both NY; the Martin Art Gallery at Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA; and LAST Projects, LA. She has been part of group shows at Smack Mellon, Brooklyn; the Queens Museum; the Museum of Art and Design, ChaShaMa, HERE Arts Center, and Arsenal Gallery, all NY; and other institutions in the United States and internationally. Grokhovsky has received awards and residencies from BRIC; the Museum of Arts and Design, ArtSlant, and SOHO20 Gallery, all NY; and Muhlenberg College; Atlantic Center for the Arts, FL. She is also active as a curator. Grokhovsky received a BFA at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia; and an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, IL.
The Future is Bright, is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC). The Stoop at BRIC House is a public cultural gathering space featuring free, drop-in programming, and offering a place to sit, observe, and participate in multi-disciplinary work.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building.
