Girls make the world go ‘round! Bring the phenomenal women in your life to BRIC House for our Family House Party in honor of Women’s Her-story month. A fun-filled day of hands-on art making, podcasting, puzzles, and live performances all culminating in a vibrant dance party, presented by Party Like Brooklyn, Baby.

Art Activity 1: Mickalene’s Portraits
Inspired by her dynamic, female centered art, get your picture taken and create a portrait in the style of the fabulous American artist, Mickalene Thomas.

Sharp, metallic, and geometric define the sculptural works of Brazilian artist Lygia Clark. Explore with our teaching artists to build similar sculptures of your own.

Art Activity 3: Alma’s Paintings

Bright colors and bold patterns are a trademark of American artist Alma Woodsey Thomas’ eye-catching paintings. Create a miniature painting of your own, and add them to your fellow artists' to build a collage of Thomas-inspired works.

Ladies of Hip Hop
Join the Ladies of Hip Hop for an interactive dance performance and workshop!

Ladies of Hip Hop Festival (LOHHF) provides girls and women with space to express, learn and share their voice through Hip-Hop arts. Traditionally, men have dominated all facets of the Hip Hop scene, but Ladies of Hip Hop Festival changes this tradition and puts girls and women center-stage. LOHHF offers workshops, performance opportunities, international artist exchanges and public talks to train, educate, and create the next generation of women in the Hip Hop culture. Venue Information:

BRIC House is Brooklyn’s cultural living room: a 40,000 square foot multi-disciplinary arts and media complex in the former Strand Theatre, where emerging and established artists can create work that deepens their practice and engages the diverse communities of the borough. 

Beginning Nov. 1, 2022, attendees of any BRIC House programming will no longer have to show proof of vaccination or a negative test to enter the building. Masks are encouraged but not required in all BRIC operated spaces. If you have questions regarding this protocol, please email Safety@bricartsmedia.org. BRIC is committed to welcoming people of all abilities. BRIC's main entrance, located on Rockwell Street, is fully accessible. In addition the main floor of BRIC House has an accessible, all-gender bathroom. The BRIC Media Center, located on the 2nd floor, is accessible via elevator. The Gallery level is accessible via a wheelchair lift. Portable FM assistive listening devices are available for programs on the Stoop and in the Ballroom upon request.
