Join BRIC with partners Housing Works and NYC Black Pride for a free screening of WERK! Behind the Ball. This new short documentary takes viewers inside NYC’s Black Pride Heritage Ball, bearing witness to the thriving LGBTQ+ ball scene, and places this underground creative art form into historic, social and cultural context.
Following the screening will be a panel discussion with Kevin Lawrence, film producer of WERK! Behind the Ball, Professor/Oral Historian Michael Roberson, Creator/Co-Founder, #HouseLivesMatter Dr. Jennifer Lee, and Jason Rodriguez, featured dancer on FX's Pose.
The evening will culminate in a community ball after party! This ball is open to one and all, so don't be shy–werk it out!
